I'm still amazed about the 66% ratings growth throughout the season The jump from 1.44 million viewers for the pilot to 2.4 million for the season finale is truly amazing.

Thanks for sharing, Andie

True Blood stays strong for HBO

James Hibberd, Reuters

HBO's True Blood has managed to hit yet another series high.

Sunday night's episode was seen by 4.3 million viewers, the latest record for the vampire drama, which began its second season in June.

HBO's freshman comedy Hung (3.4 million) as well as the veteran hipster series Entourage (3.3 million) had their second-highest numbers of the season. HBO recently renewed all three shows for another season.

Also Sunday, the season finale of Kendra on E! averaged 2.1 million viewers, the network's highest-rated first-season finale since The Anna Nicole Show.

On TLC, the Monday night return of Jon & Kate Plus 8 was seen by 4.2 million viewers. That's a steep 61% drop from the show's last outing - June's "breakup episode," which was the program's most-watched ever - but it marked a rebound after the show's pre-breakup trend, which had taken Jon & Kate down to about 3 million.

This is batty! True Blood hit another ratings high on Sunday, surging to a best-ever 5.3 million viewers. That’s up 20 percent over last week’s record 4.5 million viewers. Bottom line: The show’s unstoppable!

For now, last week’s record of 5.332 million still stands. What will the season finale bring on September 13?

Based on average viewing, the 9:02pm airing was the ninth most-watched among all cable programs for the week.

'True Blood' season finale ratings are in!
by Michael Ausiello
Categories: News, True Blood

It looks like the MTV Video Music Awards took a little bite out of True Blood’s ratings. Sunday’s second-season finale attracted 5.1 million viewers, down from the record 5.3 million that tuned in on August 23 but on par with the last outing on Aug. 30. Still, HBO has plenty to crow about. Blood was up more than 100 percent over its season 1 finale (2.5 million viewers).

So awesome the ratings for the 2nd season finale more than doubled since last year
