HBO vampire drama True Blood continues to scare up new viewers. Sunday’s episode drew 2.35 million according to live plus same day data, a 63% increase over the season premiere, which drew 1.44 million. When replays, DVR and HBO On Demand are taken into consideration, True Blood is averaging a gross audience of 6.4 million viewers.

The series, based on the Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse book series and starring Anna Pacquin and Stephen Moyer, staked a season-high Sunday night, drawing 2.35 million viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research live + same-day data. The show’s ninth installment continued the upward trend of the past few weeks that saw the seventh episode draw 2 million viewers, gauged on the aforementioned metric and the eighth installment count 2.1 million watchers. The series premiere on Sept. 7 pulled in 1.4 million watchers, meaning the Nov. 2 installment posted a 63% rise from the debut. True Blood, which HBO has renewed for a second campaign, has also been scoring well on a cumulative basis. Officials at the premium service indicate that the gross audience for the first five episodes averaged 6.4 million, when replays, DVR and HBO On Demand viewing is tabulated.

True Blood’s Viewership is Growing Broadcasting and Cable tells us HBO’s unique vampire show True Blood is gaining momentum. Sunday’s episode drew 2.35 million viewers, a more than 60 percent increase over the series premiere. Taking DVR and HBO On Demand viewing into account, True Blood is averaging 6.4 million viewers. The show is based on a series of books by Charlaine Harris. In the world set forth in her books, a synthetic blood substitute has allowed vampires to come “out of the coffin” and fight for equality. Of course, not all vampires are happy to be outed. HBO tapped Six Feet Under creator Alan Ball to bring the books to life. Believe me, this show has to be on pay cable as there are some graphic images. Readers, what do you think? Have you picked up a vampire habit?
