True Blood 1x10 - “I Don't Wanna Know” Episode Discussion (airing 11/09/2008, 9PM EST on HBO)

Episode description:
Caught in a compromising position, Sam shares a secret with an incredulous Sookie. Thinking she’s been purged of her demon, Tara celebrates with Lettie Mae – but goes off the deep end when she uncovers Miss Jeanette’s true intentions. Sookie has a disturbing revelation during Arlene (Carrie Preston) and Rene’s (Michael Raymond James) engagement party at Merlotte’s; Jason and Amy debate what to do with Eddie; and Tara speeds into a bizarre roadside encounter that lands her in jail. At a vampire tribunal to decide his fate, Bill faces a harsh penalty for his offense, but the magister (Zelijko Ivanek) decides on a more creative sentence involving a young human named Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll).

Written by Chris Offutt; directed by Scott Winant.

Now i gotta remember what happened, lol.

It was a pretty good episode.
Sookie annoyed me for the first time this season. I was surprised how she freaked out what Sam was, i mean.. she is dating a Vampire for goodness sakes, and she can't believe there are other beings out there?

She was attacked at the party.. i'm surprised the killer tried this in public, sure it was at the bar and at night.. but still, anyone else could have walked in.
I was trying to look at his face, but couldn't make out anything because it was so dark.

Poor Sam, what he went through in his childhood. His adoptive parents just leaving him like that.. I dont care if they couldnt handle it.. you just dont do that to a teenager.
I wonder how he managed to survive, and what happened then.

I knew that woman would turn out to be a con artist, Tara never had a demon inside her.. Her mother i doubt did as well, she just THOUGHT she did, so its what she believed.

And lastly.. Bill.. and that tribunal..
That whole Fang pulling was bad, man that would have hurt hell.
And it being a car junk yard? Interesting I can't believe the on lookers seem to be excited about the events that happened.

And Bill having to turn sweet, innocent Jessica.. poor Girl, i bet she never anticipated this would happen just because she snuck out of the house.
She may even think she will be dying, but its so much more than that.. and she has no idea..

But, i have a feeling,... she wasn't just randomly picked.. I mean, why her?

Thanks for the thread, Andie

I'll have to re-watch the episode tonight to post some more detailed thoughts.

Awesome episode.

- Sookie defending herself with a loofah and responding to Sam's revelation with "shut the ******* up"....priceless!

- Eric was totally working his own agenda at the tribunal. He didn't willingly offer up a defense for Bill because he wants Sookie for himself. I got the impression that Eric knew the punishment for Bill's crime would be 5 yrs in a coffin chained with silver...which would have allowed Eric to swoop in and claim Sookie as his. I how he's so straightforward in going after what he wants.

(1) He knows that he can't glamour Sookie away from Bill.
(2) Bill won't hand over Sookie when he asks nicely. (When he asked Bill if he was attached to his friend @ Fangtasia.)
(3) Eric demands Sookie as payment for Bill's crime. Bill still refuses. (I'm thinking based on vampire hierarchy Bill's response should have been..."of course, Sheriff, Sookie is now yours. Eric's comment to the Magistrar about Bill being "mostly obedient" made me realize this.)

This left Eric with one final option...remove Bill from Sookie's life. So, he didn't even try to look into helping Bill avoid the tribunal. I'm going to enjoy watching Season 2 of True Blood if this plotline continues. Eric trying to woo Sookie away from Bill should be entertaining.

- Fangs pulled out from the roots...I had to avert my eyes...and cover my ears!

Huge fan of this show and I think last night was my favorite one so far.

Sam revealing secret to Sookie and her reaction was priceless. I felt really bad for Sam during his flashbacks. I am curious to see how he made it on his own. Sam telling Sookie there is alot more out there then she could imagine makes excited to see what other creatures could pop up on the show.

I felt really bad for Tara being conned by that woman. I was really happy for to think she had been freed of a demon. I am curious though, who was the naked woman to cause her to crash her car towards the end of the episode.

The whole tribunal taking place at a junkyard was interesting and I can't wait to see the confrontation to between Bill and Sookie when the truth comes out of what he had to do.

I never would have picked up on that. Great work.

I didn't like that the tribunal was in a junkyard. It didn't seem like the vampire's kind of style at all. I was expecting something much classier and formal. However the violence was great and what it should have been. The interaction between the magister, Bill and Eric was great.

I didn't like Sookie being mad at Sam the whole episode. Although her reaction when she first found out was priceless.

I'm happy the demon storyline is over, I was getting bored of it.

I felt bad that Eddie, the poor, pathetic vampire was killed by Amy. Maybe Jason will finally get away from her now.

Loved this episode!

I don't think Sookie overreacted about Sam's revelation...I think the main reason she kept being angry at him was that he'd kept it a secret for such a long time when she had told him about her being telepathic. Ok, it wasn't as easy to keep a secret as being a shape shifter, but still...
The flashbacks were indeed sad. How could his family just pack their things and disappear!?

I felt so sorry for vampire Eddie! He was just a depressed and lonely vamp

Tara's storyline is actually getting a bit repetitive...although her encounter with the 'woman' towards the end, when she was in the car, made me laugh. That character wasn't in book 1 though, right? I think it was either 2 or 3 that she appears...

As for the tribunal. Wouldn't a sheriff of an area have more power than the magistrate? And what a creepy magistrate that one was!
It was interesting to see all the other vampires, and how different they are in terms of age and dress code. There were some really odd ones.
And yes, Eric always tries to favour he's own interests. Poor Bill. I still prefer him.
And what on earth is he going to do with Jessica? Assuming the 'making of a new vampire' is successful.

sookie doesnt deseve bill, the crap he has to go trough just to be with her and to live his love with freely ,urgh well if she doesnt want him ; i'll gladly take her place, spoil brat!!!!!

i was real blue about the coming previews, but having seen the episode and preview again, i hope someone 's dreaming and if not oh well ,her loss not his,she can keep sam, altough knowing sookie she's most definetly using sam to keep bill away ,go figure what her reason are...

on a side note i finished reading "dead until dark" and i think i understand a little bit better alan ball's liberties with the soryline, giving the pattern of things he's already slightly altered, i can see where more angst and drama would make for better episodes arc, whether i agree or not...

about a scene i wonder if the talk between jason ,rené and hoyt at the party didnt spark the killer to act against sookie at a crowded area,(i'm supposing rené is the killer, although the irak veteran also gives a creepy sad vibe)

they were talking about putting woman back in their place, right after that hoyt talks to his Ma leaves her speechless, the killer acts to shut sookie up but fails,
then we see jason at the end trying to free eddie and putting amy in her place but she beats him to it and stakes poor eddie, poor guy just minding his business(withlafayette) tsk tsk,so yeah there was some symmetry at the end poor innocent vampire gets the stake and poor innocent human girl gets the fangs...
