"The Pattern" is a general reference to a widespread sequence of unexplained events happening around the world.

The Pattern is under investigation by a joint task force of the U.S. Federal Government. Department of Homeland Security Senior Agent Phillip Broyles heads the combined investigative resources and actively directs assigned members, and an Oversight Committee. Agent Olivia Dunham and Dr. Walter Bishop are recruited to replace an ineffective science team whose mission it was to investigate the recurring events and abnormal occurrences. Peter Bishop is coerced to join the science team, as a controlling factor to his erratic father. Junior FBI Agent Astrid Farnsworth was added to the science team to support their day-to-day requirements, and to provide unique insight. FBI Agent Charlie Francis, though not a named member of the science team or joint task force, is on the short-list to provide immediate tactical and investigative support to the science team and the task force. Executive Officer Nina Sharp of Massive Dynamic, is a member of the Oversight Committee, and has intimate knowledge of many of the events related to The Pattern. According to Broyles, 37 incidents had been reported and classified as part of The Pattern when Olivia joined the task force.

Broyles describes The Pattern - "as if someone out there is experimenting, only the whole world is a lab".

Olivia likes to draw. What if she's the one who drew the Peter and Olivia's drawings? I don't know if it would be possible or make sense, but Walter was the one built the machine and Ella and Astrid and Co. are the First People...

3.20 was about how Our Side was forced into action in response to the Machine activating. The Machine is also what brings about change. Does that make sense?

Good theory about Olivia drawing the pictures. Then that must mean the Walter who sent the pieces back had Olivia alive in his time?

Well, if Walter built the machine to be activated by Peter (when he existed), Olivia would be there around the same time too; they're almost the same age. I want to know so bad what they're planning for the first episode

Yeah that's what I was trying to say. Agent = Machine.

Bold: Me too!!! I can't wait for July b/c of Comic Con and filming pictures. All the interviews with the cast are nice but I want real spoilers to discuss.

We had a complete blackout in our town Thursday, so I had no internet all day yesterday. Seems I missed out on a new thread and a lot of discussion.

I may be too literal, but I thought 'agent' referred to the fact that Peter had that position in the future scenario he saw.

Interesting idea that Olivia drew the pictures in a different future where she didn't die. Yet another question to add to the pile.

I can't wait for July either. Although I'm torn between knowing what to expect from the season finale, and going in completely spoiler free. I don't think I'll be able to control myself when news start coming in. I'm already struggling with severe Fringe withdrawal. There's just not enough fanfic out there to keep me satisfied.

I don't think they'll give us many spoilers at Comic Con, but if we start having some filming pictures, we can start our crazy speculations.

Andrea, if you want to be spoilered, we'll be on the spoilers board. I can't keep away from them, in fact, it's part of the fun for me

The showrunners have said that what we saw in the season finale really happened.

"It really happened," Wyman reassured. "What we are trying to do from a conceptual standpoint is have the audience understand that it happened and you know it did happen. We watched it and there has been a catastrophe and it needs to be righted. It will either right itself properly or it will go in a very negative way. Now you have to understand what those repercussions are going to mean."

Will Peter be the only one who knows that this really happened?

And what about the AU? Will they, or at least Walternate, know that their world was destroyed? Will they still be facing the same daily challenges because Walter or someone else crossed over?
