This is one of the storylines that makes me really wish I'd been a fan when the series originally aired. I bet the fandom was going crazy wondering if Peter would ever be back.

Viewers were expecting that when Peter returned, it would be to the original timelines. When that did not happen, it left audiences confused. Even though I understood what was going on, many others didn't. Ratings dropped and it unfortunately marked the beginning of the end of "Fringe".

The Three Lives of Vertus Air Flight 718

Original Timeline - S1-EP13 "The Transformation" originally airing on February 3, 2009:

Vertus Air passenger Marshall Bowman mutated in a matter of minutes, after becoming ill during the flight.

Vertus Air flight attendants were initially reluctant to treat or assist Bowman. After he mutated and threatened flight safety, desperate calls were made to the cockpit.

Vertus Air pilots contacted Air Traffic Control and attemped a distress call that was cut-off - the final transmission -"Our purser's reporting a disturbance in the main cabin. There seems... It's trying to get in. New York, we need an emergency land... 718... we have something on board... It's already killed at least three pass...."

Vertus Air Flight 718 crashed in Scarsdale, New York killing all 147 on board including Marshall Bowman - the exact same number as those who perished in the Glatterflug Flight 627 crash on the very first episode "Pilot".



Altered Timeline - S4-EP16 "Nothing As It Seems" originally airing on March 30, 2012:

Vertus Air passenger Marshall Bowman started to mutate in the plane's restroom, after becoming ill during the flight. His transformation ceased, but later resumed while he was in custody after the flight.

Vertus Air flight attendants were initially reluctant to treat or assist Bowman. An Air Marshal interceded and delivered bowman to TSA custody after landing.

No one from the flight died except Marshall Bowman, after he was in custody and could not reach the drugs moderating his transformation.

Did Peter's erasure from existence also change the fate of Vertus Air Flight 718 in the altered alternate universe as well?

Olivia's Stepfather

Original timeline:

Olivia shoots and wounds her stepfather.

From S1-EP6 "The Cure" that originally aired October 21, 2008.



Altered timeline:

Olivia shoots and kills her stepfather.

From S4-EP2 "One Night in October" that originally aired September 30, 2011.



Alternate Olivia either never had an abusive stepfather or whose stepfather wasn't abusive in the alternate universe or altered alternate universe.

In the alternate universe Violet Sedan Chair never broke up and continued to record.

Founder and keyboardist Roscoe Joyce never ended up in a nursing home.

Since there was no Peter as a child to catch a firefly, the other child (Victoria Dimiro) did catch it and not go wandering off. Her father never had to go looking for her in his car, therefore never hitting and killing Roscoe's son Bobby Joyce in 1985.

Seems that Walternate is a big fan of Violet Sedan Chair too.

He also is driving a Ford Taurus, which also exist in the alternate universe.

"Fringe" should have kept this scene in the episode "Over There, Part 2".



In Season 4 after time was reset, Peter in this universe (being at the bottom of Reiden Lake instead of being saved by September) also never caught that firefly.

The other child (Victoria Dimiro) did catch it and not go wandering off. Her father never had to go looking for her in his car, therefore never hitting and killing Roscoe's son Bobby Joyce in 1985 in this universe as well.

So Violet Sedan Chair should still be going strong today 'over here' as well.

(September preserved the White Tulip for Walter, taken from S3-EP10 "The Firefly", which was negated when the altered timelines came into reality, for S5-EP13 "An Enemy of Fate".)

The only people who remember things differently are Peter (now re-integrated into the revised timeline) and Olivia.

Clue: In S4-EP-5 "Novation", Malcolm Truss quietly sings "Seven Suns" from Violet Sedan Chair while working in his garden.

We all know that poor little Henry Dunham (Bishop) got zapped out of existence when Peter erased himself in "The Day We Died".

However, what has lasting value that carried over into the altered timelines was alternate Chinatown in New York City, where alternate Olivia gave birth to Henry in S3-EP18 'Bloodline', that originally aired on March 25, 2011.

In it, we get a keen glimpse into what alternate China might be like.

The Tak Hing Loong Trading Co. Ltd also exists in this universe. However, check out the 604 area code on the Chinatown Video sign.

In this universe, Southwestern British Columbia, Canada is served by area code 604, including the city of Vancouver. Area codes 212 and 646 are the area codes for most of the borough of Manhattan in New York City. It is overlaid by area code 917, which covers the entirety of New York City.

It was never disclosed whether or not the province of British Columbia in Canada is named Northern British Columbia to complement the state of Southern British Columbia in the United States in the alternate universe.



Notice the ad for "The Nutcracker". We know for sure that the city of Hong Kong exists in the alternate universe.



2011 was also "The Year of the Rabbit" in the alternate universe. Poor alternate Olivia.



The Chinese clerk behind the counter looks as though she is in a trance.



In a world where White Pages are touchscreen computer terminals, phone booths still exist.



Does anyone know Chinese and can interpret the above pictures?
