Several reviews have noticed Josh's amazing acting. I mean, I don't want to hold him back, but I'm greedy and want him to stay or have the ability to come back. I mean, I haven't watched yet, but if he gets a worse exit than say Ian (who the audience adored), I'm going to be ticked. And perish the thought, when Naomi/Austin do end whatever it is they are, if they give him a better exit because the new showrunners created him, I'll also be ticked. Just eh, part of me feels like erasing that possibility, but I wondered if you guys felt that way too?

Thanks for posting the link, priya.

Without yet watching the epi , I think everyone here knows how much I have come to love and respect Josh. If I am brutally honest, he really is too good for 90210. I think this show, regardless of writing team, has a history for writing less than satisfying exits for most of its characters, both guest stars and regulars. It's a shame. His work is too valuable for that insult.

In my ideal world, Max returns somewhere down the line (when Naomi gets her act together) and they get their happy ending @ series end. In my other fantasy, AL and Josh move on to bigger and better things and we get to see them work together again on another show.

A review I think we can all agree on, even in the previous episode:

Quote:

But setting that aside for a minute, let’s concentrate on two of my biggest problems with this episode. First (’cause she wouldn’t stand for anything less) there’s Naomi. I’ve been a fan of Naomi’s from day one, despite all the insane things she’s done, but after four seasons of ups and downs and a surprising amount of character growth, I’m very disappointed to see her reverting to type. I thought what she had with Max was real, that he made her a better, more honest woman. Yet all it took was a great set of abs with a southern accent to turn her head. I feel like every time Naomi takes a step forward, she takes two steps back in the very next episode, usually because of some crazy hot guy.

I am soooooooo angry about how the writers/producers or whoever came up with this **** destroyed the Max/Naomi relationship for some random toy-boy with a stupid cowboy accent. seriously, Max/Naomi were real and adorable. they made eachother better persons.

why do they keep destroying my ships on the cw...?? I guess I'm getting to old to understand the concept...

May, I will post a larger review but I just wanted to say I love "it's my life" and I'm happy you used that song. :)

It's been a crazy week for me. I'll share my thoughts about the epi too over the weekend.

Mayberry 10-20-2011 07:42 PM

Yay, looking forward to it! :D

Still haven't seen the ep yet.

I"ve really really really tried... I just can't find any redeeming qualities for Austin at all. How Naomi will share any deep emotional bond with this guy is beyond me. Austin seems to look out for Austin -- so we he gets bored will Naomi run back to Max? Austin riding off into the sunset on his pig would be fine with me...that's as much of an exit I'd give him. See ya ; - )

I've been thinking about why Max left/while I understand his logic, he isn't as assertive/aggressive as he was last season. I would love to see Max decide that he wants a future with Naomi, come back and fight for her/she says she loves him so he needs to step up his game a little, while saying FU to Austin. So she's into Austin, she can't date both? That is, if NAustin even happens, he's all about games/will he still be interested now that she is available?

priya1008 10-23-2011 12:42 PM

scene 1: gin rummy. love/hate in so many ways. love how max was interacting with others in the cast. hate how the writers were implying that Maxomi are an old married couple. love that Max wants to grow old with Naomi, and swooned when he called her the "Queen of my heart."

scene 2: tap act. ok, how cute did these 2 look in their vaudeville outfits? the whole act was adorably bad. who knew Naomi could play the piano??? Josh tap dancing:

scene 3: magic act. entertaining, but TBH, i was expecting more after seeing the plethora of BTS stills a few weeks ago. they majorly edited it down, and again, in the process, insult the greatness of Maxomi. i'm also sorry that the bunny didn't make the cut.

scene 4: break up. so sad. amazing acting on Josh's part. i really felt Max's pain as he walked away from Naomi. i commend him for not accepting anything less than full commitment from her; their relationship deserves better.

i am so angry at this new creative team for ruining this really incredible ship. i blame them completely, for giving AL & Josh such bad material AND for introducing the train wreck that is austin.

i am going to do the epi summary in respect for Maxomi, but i honestly think i'm done with 90210, because i know what's obviously going to happen next for Naomi, and i don't like it one bit. i'll continue to stop by this thread, but as for the show itself, i personally could care less about everything the writers have "worked" up for this season.

someone PM me when:
1. Max returns,
2. Austin leaves, and/or
3. Someone punches Austin's lights out. :punch:
then i'll tune in again.

Mayberry 10-23-2011 02:53 PM

 priya. We appreciate that you're going to do the summary (meanwhile, I need to get on the ball with my contribution) and yes, don't be a stranger.

Not that it matters, but I don't see Austin lasting past this season. What else are they going to do with him once he dates Naomi? He's not interesting enough on his own. Six episodes into this season, and there's no meat there. He'd just be "the boyfriend" similar to Liam's role in s3 but at least Liam has an interesting past.

Maxomi was far more than "the old married couple" vibe they were giving. They were young, sexy, and fun in s3 and furthermore, they had so many potential plots there. We knew more about Max after one ep than we do about Austin. What does Austin want to do with his life? Beats me. Naomi's goals seem to have fallen by the wayside too. We never see her in class and can't tell if she's a good student. I thought they were going somewhere with her ambitious sorority sisters but now it's Austin all the time. Bleh.

Anyways, we'll let you know if anything bad happens to Naustin, because I will/ or I would really miss your commentary on here.

I can't believe she didn't fight for him. This is the girl who was willing to change schools for him - who made him fight for her, and then she lets him walk away. I'm so disappointed, it's unreal. I have absolutely no love for Austin, because it's making Naomi look ridiculous.

She loved Max - and if she thought that she couldn't get over a stupid, stupid, thing for Austin, I really have no faith in these writers.

If he doesn't come back pronto, I'm not getting invested in another couple on this show, ever

priya1008 10-23-2011 07:08 PM

thanks for posting that video, jen. a reminder of the good things.

ok i revised the OP with chapter 12. it totally blew to write it, so it's short. :pout: sheera, please PM me again when you have a banner. at least there were a few cute moments to turn into graphics.

i'm sad that there won't be any updates for awhile after this... :(

ITA I love that clip, saw it on YT a few weeks ago, paired with my new fave song. I was soo disappointed that Naomi didn't run after Max--or at least let us see her leave the bar, (after Austin played in LAST mind game!) still in her tutu, jump in her car and head for Cal Tech. She dressed up in full Avatar style to impress Max, why not show up at him home/dorm? I can't believe she is the same person who chased Max even after he told her she wasn't his type.. and barged into the hotel room and told Alex to stay away from her bf and that beach scene was so sweet...and even after she said that Max was the love of her life, she still couldn't leave Austin alone. How is Austin better than Max? If anything he's a horrible person, shallow, no morals, arrogant, self-absorbed, and so mean. Why does Naomi like him? Let's say he gained weight, and broke out in pimples, would it matter? When you take away the muscles and the looks, what else is there?

Actually, I'd like to see Naomi be single for a while to focus on school and her sorority life and her friends -- BUT!
If the writers are smart tho they will have Naomi have a huge epiphany in the next few weeks where she punches Austin in the nose because of his endless meddling and goes to Cal Tech to sweep Max off his feet lol But we all know that isn't the way it will happen...not fair. (on a side note, I noticed on IMDB that the actor who plays Austin is pretty swamped with "projects" this year, so we'll see how long he sticks around. ) I"d also like to see Max be written with more confidence and charm if he does come back. (hate how the writers just teased us with what could have been.) : -(

ok, here's my May/Maxomi fic feedback:

The parentals: ok, my heart breaks for Max when it comes to his dad. but i love the angst, and i think it sheds even more light on his character. i was totally crying for Max at the end of chapter 1. i see how tortured his mom is about supporting her husband vs. supporting her son. i have a feeling she is going to make this all right in the end though. and OMG, you brought tracy back! so happy she loves Max enough to hug him at first meeting.

Melanie: i love this girl. she and Naomi are going to be BFFs. and i like the relationship she has with Max. so sweet.

The Planetarium date:  wow. i would give.... a lot (!) to see this on screen. i think AL and Josh would be amazing at something like this. honestly, if i had millions of dollars i'd start my own Maxomi 90210 spinoff and hire all 3 of you just so i could see this.

"Talk brainy sexy to me."
Hot.

love how you brought the RL CalTech/MIT college rankings into it. love how you brought back the butt grab. love that silver is the one pursuing the escort career, not Annie.

and why do i feel like Copernicus might be hanging out at Liam's bar sometime in the future?

thank you again SO MUCH May; your fic made this past *very sad* week much easier to get through.
