Dexter - Dexter Season 3 Appreciation Thread

Does anyone have any ideas of what might happen in season 3?

I hope that the aftermath of Doakes' demise in last season's finale will mean a new character to interact with who is equally in-your-face, well, Dex's face anyway. I also hope they have an episode where we see the grief of his sisters and mother. It would not be right to ignore them. Doakes was a large part of the show imho.

I don't know, I've read alot of stuff about S3 including that Jimmy Smitts is joining the cast but nothing on his family.

I was thinking earlier, what if Rita were to get pregnant this season? Would this go along with the show or not, in your opinion? I'm not so sure if it would, but the writers could do it well. They've done a really great job thus far with keeping the show real, but with a serial killer as the main character.

After all, Dexter is supposed to be a normal guy. This kind of thing happens.

It would be interesting to see how Dexter would react to such news and responsibility. We already know that he doesn't understand people who hurt children, so it would definitely be different to see how it touches him to have an actual, biological child. We saw how he was with Rudy, after killing him, so I thought that it would be interesting to see if that sort of thing actually "wakes up" his emotions. He's great with Cody and Astor, but, when it comes down to it, that involves a lot of acting and what he thinks to be normal parenting.

Would he be connected or disconnected?

Now, I don't think this will actually happen, and I guess I would be kind of surprised if it did. It was just a random idea I came up with and I was interested in seeing what other fans would think.

I just can't see Dexter as a father. Despite the fact he's good with Astor and Cody I just think it would be odd.

I have no reason why I find it odd but I do.

Maybe he will become the master when his son is born and he will become a student of Dexter's art?

This season would definitely be too soon for a pregnancy. Neither are ready.

You make a good point about Rita...she's finally coming around after Paul. I agree, it would be much too soon for her.

It would be odd.

I think it would work better in the books, honestly. I can't really picture him doing normal things with his own kid, for some strange reason.

That would certainly be interesting. I'm not so sure if Dexter would do that, though, teach someone to be a killer. Always possible, though, if they needed to learn. Interesting idea.

I agree. I think that's something that would work better to end the series with, on an open note (or any series really - sometimes children fit, sometimes they don't). I'm not so sure I would like to see that plot actually played out.

I would like to see Dexter going back to the basics. By that I mean, Dexter checking out backgrounds on criminals who are secretly getting away with horrendous crimes or slipped through the justice system on a technicality and disposing of them in his usual manner.

It would also be interesting to see how Dexter is relating to his situation with Rita. Is she just a convenience to him, a cover-up to the outside world or will Dexter become more human and at the same time become more tormented with himself.

I can't wait for Season 3...sounds like he's going to go back to the basics...least that's what I got from Season 2. He has to find a new way to kill his victims and what to do with their bodies...will he cut them up again? It'll be interesting to see how his kills change.

Yes, I'm wondering what he is going to do with the bodies as well. He might still drop them off in the ocean but secure them better and put them in a different area. I hope the writers address this problem of Dexter's and don't just decide to not mention what Dex does with the bodies.

Yeah he did find that one place where the currents will take the bodies off far away...so I think he will stick to dumping the bodies in the ocean.

I think next season La Guerta will get obsessive with trying to clear Doakes name and pinning the real BHB, again keeping Dex on his toes.

Yeah, she seemed really upset the last episode, like she was determined to clear his name...so we'll have to see what happens. Can't wait for the new season.
