Blonsky, who was plucked out of obscurity to portray Tracy Turnblad in the first film, notes, "Tracy's a character who shows that everybody is equal, and we should all have fun and just live and let live. I would love nothing more than to get out there and spread that message again."

In the meantime, Blonsky, who just wrapped the movie "Waiting for Forever" with Rachel Bilson, says she's trying to spread a similar message of her own. "You can measure the size of my hips, my legs and my waist, but you can't measure the size of someone's talent. That is irrefutable," notes the plus-sized actress. "If someone is talented and they've got what people need to play a part in a movie or TV show, then it shouldn't matter what size or shape you are," she adds.

The story will follow Tracy Turnblad (Nikki Blonsky) and her pals as they navigate the “next era of music,” the late ’60s. “That period was superpolitical,” Shankman adds, “it was a time of serious change.” No kidding: According to the filmmaker, heartthrob Link (Zac Efron) will channel his inner Austin Powers and become steeped in the British Invasion. “We’re trying to track, in a comedic way, the historical elements.”

The 20-year-old actress has been out and about all over this week. Nikki attended the Bon Jovi: When We Were Beautiful premiere, the This Is It premiere held at the Regal E-Walk Theater, and the premiere of Oy Vey! My Son Is Gay! at the Directors Guild Theater — all in NYC.

Nikki currently stars as Poppy in MTV’s short-series Valemont. Valemont is about Sophie (Kristin Hager), an 18-year-old girl who decides to investigate her older brother Eric’s (Eric Balfour) mysterious death. Valemont’s episodes are short but you can keep up with interactive material online including a whole blog from Poppy.

Kristin Hager revealed to MTV that the series was being re-edited into a TV movie-length show, but it’s all still in development.

A tv movie will give her a lot more recognition than the little short episodes that come between two shows that people watch. That is when most people get up to get snacks or drinks, and sometime go to the restroom. Not many people watch that kind of stuff.
