The first time I heard of Kate Voegele, she was touring earlier this year with Natasha Bedingfield and the Veronicas. I had interviewed both of those acts to preview the concert and, not having heard much about Voegele, passed on the idea of interviewing her as well.

After attending the show and hearing her live, though, I e-mailed her publicist, who sent me a copy of her album, "Don't Look Away." It was incredible. And the next time Voegele came to the area -- to headline at Toad's Place -- I was intent on interviewing her.

Not only did I like her album and not only was she cool to talk with, but she turned out to be one of my favorite interviews of the year. And, mind you, I've never watched her TV show, "One Tree Hill." So this is all based on the music.

While I occasionally have to deal with mediocre cell phone connections for interviews, Voegele's enthusiastic voice was blaring through the receiver so loudly that I had to take it a little bit away from my ear!

I met Kate and her father, Will, after the show at Toad's and enjoyed interacting with them in person as well.

"My little sister will be 18 in a couple of weeks, which is insane!" Kate Voegele said. "She's awesome. She's so cute. She's a great musician. She's a great singer and everything. She's just so excited about her senior year of high school. I've been trying to persuade her to skip out and come sing backup with me on the road and play violin in my band. But she's like, 'I'm a senior in high school! I'm not going anywhere!' She is awesome though. She's really, really great. And I think she is probably sick of people being like, 'So, are you gonna be a famous singer, just like your sister is?' "

ALSO, I'm back on the CW's "ONE TREE HILL" this season with a big role and a great storyline!! Season 6 has been so much fun to shoot, and you can catch "One Tree Hill" on Mondays at 9pm/8pm central on the CW every week.
