I don't remember where I read it but I think Jack and Jennifer started sharing scenes/having a story because Billy left leaving Melissa without a scene partner and Matt at the time was kind of in story limbo as well. So it was kind of an experiment and they became so popular that the show was willing to explore more. They weren't expressly romantic during baby Hannah but they did have to "fake" it to make her more appealing as an adoptive mother. I liked that because they became close even though the sexual tension really kidn't kick in big time until the diary story, IIRC. Or until Emilio came back.
Soaps were definitely willing to experiment a bit more and if something piqued the interest of the audience, they were willing to go with it. I don't think it's stubborness that prevents that now but rather storyline expediency. It's cheaper to film six months in advance. It's also cheaper to block film so the same people are in the same stories and there's little cross-show interaction. Remember when Steve saved Jennifer from the tent collapsing? No romance. No nothing. Just two people in separate stories giving the impression of being in the same town. __________________

Jaime, that clip is from 2005.
The only scenes J&J had in 2004 was the stuff on the island. That was when Jennifer gave birth to JJ but of course Patrick was there for that and Jack wasn't.   I did like the scene where J&J met up again "He's a he, and he looks like we!" Jack was presumed dead again shortly after and came back. He reunited with Jennifer but then it turned out to be some imposter in some mask. It was really out there, but with JER as writer, not really surprised. It was not until this hospital scene where J&J were really reunited. |
