I think that's a difficult question. I think both friendships are very different and both friendships work in very different ways.

To be honest, I think that it doesn't matter how much Barney would try to be Ted's bff, it always gonna be Marshall.

I agree with that. Especially now we've seen the Intervention letters. Marshall's was the only one that really said what everybody was thinking. Just like it was Marshall in No Tomorrow who made Ted realise he'd been a jackass all night. Marshall knows when Ted's going to regret things and he calls him on it because he knows that even though Ted might get mad initially... he'll stew on what Marshall has said and probably realise he's right.
I also loved that it was Marshall who had the heart to heart with Stella about Star Wars being Ted's favourite movie. He totally GOT it. I love their relationship.  In fact, I think for me it even rivals JD/Turk and I never thought I'd say that! I can just imagine Marshall and Ted doing a duet ala Guy Love from the Scrubs musical! __________________

I just had a funny image of Ted and Marshall doing a Guy Love style duet. That would be hilarious. And awesome. I love the Ted/Marshall freindshp. It's fantastic. __________________

 They are great together. I love their college flashbacks. I also love when they start arguing with each other and get mean. Like in the episode with Marshall's dunks and Ted's radio. __________________
