But that's the fun of it.  Well, Jason appears in a jump scare scene in the end, but it was never the intention for him to be the killer. That didn't start until Friday the 13th Part 2. __________________

The movie takes place in 1980, and the killer is someone who is taking revenge for Jason's death, but not Jason himself. Originally Jason wasn't supposed to even be in the movie, they added him in to the end for that classic jump scare. But the killer in the first film was his mother, who heard her son Jason's voice in her head telling her to kill people, kind of like Norman Bates from Psycho in reverse.
