CBS is doing this so they can launch mid-season test previews of new shows beginning in April which will run without breaks until May. The remaining 11 episodes of HIMYM will also run without breaks in order to finish the season by March instead of May for this reason.

I thought I had until May to prepare myself. I better have my box of tissues ready for March 31st. It could be the happiest episode ever and I'll still be bawling my eyes out.
