So do all of you think Marshall and Lily really end up as stodgy and kinda m'eh as Ted's future seems to make them out to be? Because I find it hard to believe a couple so in love would end up that way... I haven't seen all the episodes yet, though, so if their future selves are better than I've seen so far, feel free to enlighten me.  __________________

I've chosen to believe Ted is portraying them like that because of the whole thing with "every song on the radio is about you, every other couple sucks," thing from a few seasons back. He's got the love of his life and believes they're better than Marshall and Lily, so that's how he talks about them. That's my headcanon, and I'm sticking to it.
