For one day anyway, the set of the CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother became more like How I Met The Mothers. New moms and series stars Alyson Hannigan and Cobie Smulders, who both gave birth earlier this year, returned to work on Wednesday and baby talk was all anyone wanted to have.

“Everyone’s so excited,” said Hannigan, who brought husband Alexis Denisof and four-month-old daughter Satyana to work. “We’re trying not to overwhelm her by introducing her to everybody right away but they’re happy for us.”

Although Smulders’ three-month-old daughter Shaelyn was noticeably absent from the cast’s champagne toast to celebrate their Emmy nomination HIMYM creators have already built an on-set nursery so everyday can be take your daughter to work day. “It was never even a question,” Hannigan explained. “We got pregnant and I think they knew we’d be sitting there weeping in a corner if not so maybe this is the way to go!”

While their costars celebrated the first day back with glasses of bubbly, Smulders and Hannigan happily abstained from the festivities. “I am feeding a child with my body so I will not be poisoning her with alcohol but it’s a good way to kick off the morning,” joked Smulders, raising a glass of orange juice to Neil Patrick Harris, who is also preparing to host the 2009 Emmy Awards. In true Barney fashion, Harris shot back: “This is lovely. We’re all going to be passed out by noon.”

Meanwhile, on the show this season, Robin and Barney’s relationship will unfold simultaneously with Ted meeting the mother of his children in an architecture class at Columbia University.

I'm keeping an eye on all the late night lineups for early Sept! Last year we had a lot within the first few weeks and I think Neil especially will be doing the rounds before long!
