I just rewatched s2 and in one of the episode, Ted mentions his sister married a guy he didn't like... but when she came to visit him this season, wasn't she just finishing college and totally NOT married??

In Sweet taste of Liberty (S1E3) Marshall said that he has never been in a fight before but in The Fight (S4E10), we learn that he was always fighting with his brothers.

I rewatched S2 and thought the same thing, and then rewatched the Heather episode - it's totally off continuity. I was looking for wiggle room and there wasn't any!

There was a line where Ted said his sister married a guy he hated. It was definitely his sister - I rewatched that episode after Little Minnesota and was like "Wait - what?!"

I rewatched all of season 4 on Friday night and Ted does say Heather got married for 5 days, but the impression he gave when he talked about her before was that she was in a solid marriage. Hmmm...

well maybe when he said he hated her husband she was married and when she came to visit she was divorced
who was the girl that had all the kids? and Ted got them gifts and told them not to tell their parents? was that his cousin? |

Yeah, that was his cousin Stacy.
I think it was implied that when he said he hated the guy she married that it was longer than five days, but I could probably cope with that as an explanation for the sake of deluding myself that HIMYM never screws up continuity! __________________
