Hi, Alex! Sorry I've been MIA. This past weekend has been crazy. Things are starting to calm down now. I hope you are feeling better now.

Yeah they did have a lot of episodes with twists and at times not revisiting it making people question what they were trying to get at. I'm on season 7 of Friends and noticing a lot of similarities. I always knew they were there but didn't realize there are so much! The marriage pact, ending a relationship because of being friends with an ex, being left at the alter etc. Ted and Robin are still my favorite couple tho

A proposal would have been nice..we saw him propose to other women and her get engaged twice so I wanted to see it after they ended up together but yes more buildup would have been helpful..most of the hints were at the beginning of the show

Hi, Amber! It's okay, I know real life happens. Glad to see you!

Yeah, you've noticed that Friends had a lot of the same problems, huh? I really hated how thrown together and contrived the whole Rachel-Joey thing was. It's like, why bother? By then you know that Ross and Rachel are gonna be endgame, so where are you going with this? It's the same with Ted and Robin. Why the writers felt they had to revisit that other relationship that ended back in season 5 I don't know. It was probably the thing that angered viewers the most, no matter which side you were on.

Oh, and the whole wedding thing? Yeah, the Ross-Emily thing, where he says Rachel's name, and then Robin asks Ted to run off with her on the day of her wedding. Very original, guys.

I think it's stupid that after all that waiting and everything Ted and Robin went through that they left their future ambiguous. They could get married, or they could end up like Kurt and Goldie, as an unmarried couple. Who knows?

Yeah, I'm ready for things to calm down over here

I didn't like the Rachel/Joey thing. I'm glad they ended that quickly. I wish the writers of himym figured that out with that other couple seems like they did but ran out of storylines. Idk

I wonder how if would have went if they had Robin and Ted backslide instead and have the pregnancy scare in Symphony of Illumination. It would have been a good lead up to No Pressure. Then from there kept them off and on. It would have worked better than the twist. But for some of us it wasn't much of a twist

Yes! I would like to think they got married because in the pilot FT said he was gonna marry her someday and then in the finale Lily said the only way anyone can sleep with Robin is if they marry her. Marshall winning the bet was never clarified if them ending up together meant marriage or not..hmm

Awww, I hope they do calm down for you, Amber.

I didn't like the Rachel/Joey thing either. It seemed like the kind of thing the writers probably thought they had to come up with to extend the series after Monica and Chandler got married and the show was getting close to its ninth and tenth seasons.

Yeah, that pregnancy scare would've worked a lot better if it had been Ted that Robin had slept with and then found out she couldn't have kids. But then her whole "How I Met Your Dad" dream wouldn't have made sense because we already know she didn't have kids with Ted. That dream of her future kids who would never be is what made her break down into Ted's arms in the first place. Ohhhh, I hate the writers for backing themselves into so many corners. But I still would've preferred it had been Ted.

Yep, if Ted said all the way back in the pilot that he was gonna marry Robin someday, I'll take that as his endgame. After all, when he said that to his kids he was already preparing to get back with Robin in 2030 anyway.

Hi, Alex

On the Joey/Rachel thing I read that the cast didn't feel comfortable with the Joey/Rachel thing and that's probably a big reason why it didn't last long.

Good point about the dream..if that happened with Ted it would have been a dead giveaway that it wasn't real. They could have done it differently though.. I just think it would have been an easier transition to bring up Ted and Robin again.

I took that as his endgame too..If present Ted had said it I wouldn't have thought anything but since it was Future Ted speaking in 2030 I took it as foreshadowing also their pact (even if they broke it) was still a hint that they would get married someday.

BTW did you hear that they might bring HIMYM back? I don't see it happening as everyone has moved on. Plus, with the amount of hate the finale had why would they want to?!

I was a fan of Robin/Ted throughout the series but just hated the way they were seemingly tacked back together at the end of the series after spending 20 some episodes on a wedding with her and Barney and getting to meet Tracy (people might have felt differently if Tracy wasn't as likeabla as she turned out being)

Don't take this as hate at all because it's really not but I just can't see them getting married in the future

It's okay, Mike. But I've had this discussion before, many times, and Ted and Robin weren't really tacked back together at the end of the series because the entire series from the very beginning was about them. Even during the final season there were episodes like "Platonish" and "Sunrise" that were going back to Ted and Robin. That was pretty much the main narrative of future Ted's entire story to his kids, and throughout the entire story there were hints and clues that Ted and Robin's relationship in the future was closer than the writers were letting on. I always point to the first three seasons where Ted would mention to his kids how "Aunt Robin" would always come over for Halloween dressed in crazy costumes, and the crayon drawings that Ted's kids made of them and Robin going to the beach and the zoo, which implied that Robin in the future had become very close to Ted's kids.

I think it's safe to say that Robin in the future had become a surrogate mom to Ted's kids in the years following Tracy's death, and that as Robin had become a part of their family, she and Ted slowly grew closer together until they finally reunited in 2030, now having grown and changed as people and were finally ready to be a couple. And I personally think that if Ted and Robin didn't get married in the future it would defeat the entire purpose of the story. However, I do agree with you that the writers should never have dragged that wedding out across the entire final season, and they should never have made Tracy a regular cast member during the final season. That was mostly due to CBS unexpectedly renewing the show for another season, forcing them to stretch the story out for another year. Originally they were going to end the story in season 8.

Hi, Amber! Yeah, the Joey/Rachel thing was mostly just a "jump the shark" moment for Friends.

Yeah, I think that there was really no way to do that episode any differently, aside from just ditching Robin's imaginary future children altogether. But that would've damped her emotional pain over her discovery that she couldn't have children. But I also think that storyline was kind of unnecessary, to be honest. And you're right, since we're always hearing Ted in the future, it's clear that 2030 Ted is still holding a torch for Robin if he's talking about her like that to his kids all the time. And I haven't heard anything about HIMYM coming back. Are you sure? I've only heard that a How I Met Your Dad show is in the works, but as far as HIMYM goes, everyone has already moved on to other things. A reunion special would be nice though.

I'm all for a HIMYM reboot but somewhere down the road, not right away.

I mean the show ended what, 3 years ago at the most?

Yup 3 years! Jason Segel was in a hurry to be done so I can't see him wanting to come back. The rest of them are on other projects as well. I don't see it happening

Thanks for the article, Amber! Sorry I wasn't here yesterday. I was kinda lazy and worn out from work.

So they're actually thinking about reuniting the cast? Well, I'd be okay with it only if they do flashbacks that fill in the gaps between 2014 and 2030. They need to be a lot more specific on how everyone ended up where they are, and where they're going to be. Much more exposition on how Ted and Robin ended up together is necessary, as well as more on how Tracy died and how she dealt with knowing that Ted and her children would have to go on without her. And yeah, they'd have to figure out a way to get the cast back, and I don't see that happening right now when they've all moved on to other projects.

I saw that the other day... out of all the things that keep popping up about spinoffs and whatnot that is the most likely to happen, even if it takes a couple years to nail down the cast.

You really think they'll be able to reunite the cast for a reunion, Crystal?

It seems to be the new trend... Xfiles came back, Will & Grace and Rosanne are coming back. Gilmore Girls did on Netflix.

Don't forget Prison Break and Twin Peaks too. Yeah, but those shows were all off the air a looooong time. HIMYM has only been off the air, what... three years?
