Currently, James was not at college though. He was at home, in his room, looking at himself in the full length mirror that used to be the twins, and trying to focus on his outfit rather than the yelling going on downstairs. His parents were still together but they fought a lot, mostly because his mum was a total bitch. James was counting down the days until he could leave.

He was wearing a green and grey striped jumper with a skirt that came down to a few inches above his knee. It had just come in the mail from Emily, pretty much his only source of “numbers”. He hadn’t had a chance to wear it before now because his mum always gave him the worst looks whenever he tried to go out in girl’s clothing. He didn’t wear them to school because he wasn’t suicidal but could sometimes be seen in one on the weekends.

“Nah, blowbacks are for queers.” James would be lying if he said he wasn’t a little bit disappointed. He had always wanted to try doing a blowback but never had. And doing one with Paddy would probably be an interesting experience. And then maybe they could be friends, outcasty friends but friends nonetheless. James’ thoughts were rambling which was never a good thing but thankfully Paddy spoke, distracting him.

“Oh, **** it. C’mere.” Paddy sat up and looked at James expectantly, the joint waiting in between his lips. James blinked twice before unfolding his legs and scooting closer. He tucked his legs underneath him and leaned forward hesitantly, glancing at Paddy’s mouth before looking him in the eyes. Paddy nodded slightly and James leaned in slowly. He brought his hands up and placed his fingertips on Paddy’s cheeks. He opened his mouth and put his lips over the hot end of the joint, making sure not to burn himself. He blew on the end so that the smoke would come out through Paddy’s end as well as his own and then took his mouth off the joint so that he could exhale. Paddy took the joint from his lips and smoke blew out of his nose and mouth. James couldn’t stop himself from staring at the other boy’s mouth and when he glanced back up Paddy was staring right at him.

James blinked and when his eyes opened Paddy was leaning forward, cupping James’ cheek with his hand and kissing him. James’ eyes slid closed and he leaned into the kiss, reaching out a hand and placing it on Paddy’s collarbone to steady him. The kiss was awkward and boyish with noses bumping and teeth snagging but they didn’t stop until they were both out of breath, eyes closed and air puffing in and out. Paddy was the first to open his eyes, first to face reality while James was still caught in a world of too soft lips that tasted like pot and lipstick.

“Oh, ****ing hell.” The swear brought James out of the dream and when his eyes opened he saw Paddy scooting a good foot away from him. His back was to James and he was clutching the joint like it was the last one on Earth.

“I’m not gay.” He shot the sentence over his shoulder like it was an arrow and it might as well have been with how hard it hit James. James felt like his body was being erased, everything was so fuzzy and confusing. His drug addled brain wasn’t helping this matter.

“Pads- “ He tried to grab at something, get a grip on what was happening.

“I swear to God if you tell anyone, you’re dead.” Aim, pull, release and target hit. James was a bulls eye.
