True, I feel like the purpose of Emily's entire character was to basically force Naomi into realizing and coming to terms with her sexuality as fast as possible.

That's what I thought too. She was basically all about Naomi/Naomily. I liked her scenes with JJ and Katie because those were rare moments when you could see her standing out as her own person. I think Emily was so used to be in the shadow of Katie, that after she fell in love, she basically changed her status from Katie's shadow to Naomi's shadow...

Accurate analysis is accurate. It's especially unfortunate though because they made such a big deal of her breaking free of Katie and becoming her own person, when really she just transferred into following around someone else and letting them treat her poorly.

That's true. I think Kat said that in s4 Emily was just showing the world that she was tired of being people's doormat. I guess I would be okay with this interpretation, if Emily actually left Naomi instead of getting her revenge on her and threatening to kill herself...it just looked like a child trowing a tantrum, not a real attempt at growing balls

Yeah, the entire season was like a giant tantrum for her, especially when she knocked Naomi into the pool

Yeah, sadly I hated everyone when I watched it for the first(and last) time. I was preparing myself to be really invested in ships and characters, but I ended up disliking everything. I remember being excited about Effy as a lead

Turned out to be a disappointment

I guess if it had different ships, like all of my crackships, I'd have actually liked Gen2.

The weirdest thing about that episode was that I actually thought Katie and Naomi had more of a spark in that one conversation than Naomi and Emily had that whole episode, probably because Naomi was lighthearted with Katie and they weren't weighed down by all of the masochism and angst

IKR, for me Naomi/Katie generally had more chemistry than Naomi/Emily, and their banter and bickering was so funny, I'm pretty sure I'd have shipped them hardcore if they had gotten together for real. This is exactly the type of ships I love

I think both Emily and Naomi are too "angsty" on their own and they needed someone to balance their melancholic nature with some lightheartedness.
