Chuck Bass S&S #458: Welcome to Fanwanking 101, Chapter 1: "How to make everything about Chuck and Chuck and Blair"

...

Season 5

- Episodes -

:: SPOILER SOURCES ::

Blair Waldorf needs a devil redeemed, not a donut. Is there any good Chuck/Blair stuff coming up on Gossip Girl? — Janey
And your reward is such: Of course there are great Chair moments coming up! Producers have certainly heard your cries, and all I’ll say is that you should not count anyone out of the running for Blair’s heart. On that note, can everyone please give Josh Schwartz his Twitter back? Also, CONGRATULATIONS. You are the winner of this week's Best Question award for one of the best characterizations of Dan Humphrey I've ever read.

Can you tell us anything about Blair on Gossip Girl and the many men in her life? She’s got her pauper, her prince and her king — how will she ever choose?! I’m really rooting for Chuck and Blair to get back together eventually. Can you tell us if the last five episodes have some drama for them? — Leslie
I don’t know how she’ll choose, but I do know that easier choices have been made by entire branches of the U.S. government. Kidding. But in all seriousness, there is definitely drama to be had, and I hear there’s more than you can handle in the two-part finale, which takes place over one event-filled night in the Gossip-verse (but airs over two weeks for us).

And what about Chuck? Josh [Safran] explains that the theme of this season, for everyone, is “growing up”. “They are all actually taking the first steps to who they are going to be,” says Josh. “Chuck’s journey, even though it looks like he’s a thrill-seeker [in the premiere], that opens the door to a new avenue for him, a new way of life, which isn’t what you’ve seen yet. But I think people will really like it. I think it’s the only actual step in the evolution of Chuck.

Brendahere: Gossip Girl please! Louis is the worst. Please tell me there is hope that she’ll ditch him for Dan? Or Chuck? I don’t even care which one!
There is more than hope, my friend! I can tell you there will be a pretty epic scene involving Dan and Blair in one of the upcoming episodes that shows he’s still very much an important part of her life. And there will be a Blair and Louis scene that shows
Chuck may be even more important to Blair than anyone.

:: SET PICTURES ::

It is a gross misconception that CBers ship
the couple in their current state- they don’t.
They ship them for the potential they have
to be great once they find their way
back from the dark
place they fell into.
As Safran said….
”its always dark before the dawn”.
They want to see CB rise from the ashes and grow from the dark place.

I am VERY confident that Louis will be gone by the finale. I'm betting he's gone right after the wedding. I think they've kept him around so long as a cover for DB tbph. I think they want people to be so focused on hating the Blouis story that they are more tolerant of all the DB coming up.

For one thing, they are obviously going to do some kind of Blair/Donut/Serena "thing" soon and Louis doesn't really fit into that. He has to be gone for that to have any real impact.

Sort of off-topic:
I was watching a "Sex and the City" marathon recently and I forget there was a scene in early S1 between Big and Carrie that was so much like a famous Chuck and Blair scene:
Carrie was trying to get Big to tell her she was "the one" and he couldn't do it just like Blair was trying to get Chuck to say "I love you" in 2.01 and he (Chuck) couldn't do it. I saw some other things that reminded me of Gossip Girl as well. I just get the feeling SATC is a constant source of inspiration for them (esp now that one of the Gossip Girl writers wrote for SATC)

RE: Fanwanking
Are we fanwanking to make everything about Chuck and Chair? While I don't always succeed () I actually try to consider all the characters as much as possible in my specs. Like for example, one of the most interesting parts of the first half of S5 for me has been the Dan and Serena relationship. There are a ton of hints that he's dealing with alot of unspoken anger and bitterness toward her from the way he wrote about her in his book to his assumption she screwed him over with his film (which wasn't true) to his assumption she didn't invite him to Blair's shower to keep him "out" (also not true) to his snarky comment about the kind of guys she's falls for (in 5.10). That's not just one moment. It's a pattern. So people who ignore that and focus only on the fact he's in "lurve" with Blair are likely missing a big part of Dan's story and motivation for his behavior this season.

Really? You think he will be gone that "early"? That sounds wonderful. (If it's true, lol.) Honestly, that was the first spoiler spec cheering me up in like forever.

About DB "happening" or whatever. Meh. I don't care anymore. The show has made me indifferent. Just get it over with. For me they have done the worst to CB already by 1) letting Blair love another guy, 2) getting engaged to him, 3) getting pregnant with him, and 4) marrying him. There is absolutely nothing which could top that for me. Nothing. Why then should I care about a DB hook up/relationship? The show let them hang out all the time already/cuddle/let them be emotionally close etc. etc., so I'm starting to think: what would really be the difference, lol? Unless they will also make her preggers with Dan/let her marry him or whatever. Which they won't. And who cares, CB will be endgame anyway. The only person who will suffer for a while from DB is Serena (and ehm Blair imo for many reasons ), and while I love S it might be just as well she finally realises Dan doesn't care about her and just gets over him already. (If they will ever let her do that.) She deserves so much better it's ridic at this point. Everyone lurves D and forgives him for everything, so he will eventually come out of it unscathed. Same with Blair. *shrugs* DB seem to be the most important friendship on the show for the writers by now, so they obviously won't fall out over it for a longer period of time. No one - least of all the writers - really seem to care about CD as friends or DB possibly hurting Chuck, so it won't matter for them either. (And hey, more Chuck suffering for a while is just same old, same old.) SBN will have some drama, SB will fight for a bit (over Dan - I never thought I would see the day), then they will reconcile as usual and then everything will probably go back to the new status quo: Serena continuing to be more of a side character on the show and Dan continuing to be Blair's confidante - and CB being endgame of course.

Perhaps after DB is dealt with romantically the writers will give Dan another love interest - or try to redeem him to Serena (good luck dude) - which will inevitably at least mean less screen time for DB. So yay for that. So with Louis finally gone and a DB romance out of the way, the good stuff might finally start to get some focus in the writing: Chuck and Blair and the other relationships on the show.

I will skip the whole mess - or lol over what I'm hearing about it - and come back when it's all over. I've realised being a Chuck/CB fan is really mostly about just waiting things out, ignoring stupid stuff and come back when the good stuff eventually happens, lol.

(If I thought the writers actually cared about CD as friends? If I thought they really cared about Serena/SB? If the child is really Chuck's? If important stuff on the show would actually start to matter? Hell yeah I would never want DB to happen. But now it just feels like another meaningless SL we need to get through *for drama's sake* to finally get to the interesting stuff.)

For whatever it's worth I don't think DB will ever have sex. I think there will be one billion scenes of them cuddling and being emotionally close, teasing the possibility (so they might just do it as far as I'm concerned - I'd rather they just **** than bond). But the writers love Dan. They want him to be the good guy in the end and they want him to end up happy with one of the mains, I'm sure. And even though stuff like this usually doesn't matter much on this show I still think they will at least try and protect both DS and SB in that way. Lol, one upside to DB being in an actual relationship though would be that the writers had to break them up in some way. It could be entertaining I guess. (Hearing about it, that is.) All in all though, yet a dozen of episodes to skip.

Eventually the focus will shift back to C&B though. Cannot wait for that day.

Angela- is it fanwanking when you're right most of the time. And IA about DS, there has got to be amore to it than Dan just move on.

I just want to see what Chuck is going to be doing during this whole mess. I hope he gets to interact with Georgina.

Me, fanwanking? Never! . I think there will a good portion of episodes in the spring where CB won't be the focus at all. Unlike some of you I don't think the heavy DB promotion is a cover for some great hidden CB story. I do believe relationship or not we will get an extended DB arc in the second half much like season 4. They are promoting DB because they depend on them to "carry the show" for a while so they are trying to win more (casual) fans over to their story/relationship. My prediction is that CB will become the focus again at the end of the season. Another reason why I think CB will move to the background for a while is that I think the DB arc will be all about the B/D/S triangle and how DB's relationship affects Serena and the Serena/Blair friendship. The writers wouldn't know how to still do CB while that's going on.

I'm all for Chuck and Georgina scenes as well.

Yeah, Chuck & Georgina, why not? It has the potential for some temporary greatness. It could be hilarious. I'll take her over bores like Eva or Raina any day.

Perhaps there will be some more Chuck/Nate bonding...? Taking strolls together with Monkey?

Whatever they do, I hope they'll keep him out of the SDB triangle bs.

Are we fanwanking to make everything about Chuck and Chair? While I don't always succeed () I actually try to consider all the characters as much as possible in my specs. I very much agree on the DS front, I don't think DB will be what some people want or expect. I think its very much about SB.

I think the prince will be MIA but she wont be divorced yet. When she comes back from nearly running, they probably put on a facade for the paps but then he's a royal douche bag and leaves.

I do wonder what Chuck will be doing, I dont mind scene with Georgina, but I don't want him to be doing Georgina . I want him to not move on And for that to be very obvious.

When we last left the Gossip Girl characters in the mid-season finale, Blair (Leighton Meester) and Chuck (Ed Westwick) finally, finally admitted what the audience has known all along: that they belong together. Blair decided to call off her wedding to Prince Louis (Hugo Becker) of Monaco, and Chair was seen speeding away in a town car until a pack of paparazzi caused their vehicle to crash.
However, in newly released spoiler photos for Season 5′s Episode 11, which airs on January 16th, Blair is pictured trying on wedding gowns for Dan (Penn Badgley,) which makes us think that she never got around to giving Louis the “It’s not you, it’s me…and Chuck” speech.
So, does that mean that she changed her mind about running away with Chuck, or did Mr. Bass die tragically at the hospital? Fortunately, for Chair fans, Chuck is seen in other spoiler photos, like this one, where Louis is giving Gossip Girl‘s resident bad boy an ominous look. So, something else must have caused Blair to still go through with the wedding.
Could it be her unborn baby or Louis’ scheming French mother? We guess we’ll have to wait until January 16th to find out!
