Hilary Duff Joins Gossip Girl

Hilary Duff is coming to start some drama on the Upper East Side.

The singer and actress is joining the cast of Gossip Girl for a several episodes, reports EW.com.

Duff will play Olivia Burke, a famous film star in search of the normal college experience. Her school of choice will be New York University, where Blair (Leighton Meester), Dan (Penn Badgley) and Vanessa (Jessica Szohr) were also accepted.

And in a excellent twist, Olivia will be rooming with Vanessa! Will they be friends? How will Blair react? And could she catch the eye of a certain Brooklynite?

Duff’s first episode is set to air Oct. 5.

Sorry, Hilary Duff haters, but Duff joins the Gossip Girl cast as movie star Olivia, and she'll be getting her movie-star cooties on the entire cast, not just Vanessa and Dan. Also on Gossip Girl this season, Chuck and Blair are totally getting married and having a million babies. (OK, not that, but they are staying tight. Yay!) And believe it or not, the show really is trending away from "Dan and Serena are the one true pairing of Gossip Girl." Certainly, that arc might turn back sometime in the future, but for now the show is trying to establish their separate identities, apart from their on-again, off-again shenanigans.

Shooting location:

The cast of Gossip Girl is back on the streets of NYC as filming for season three began yesterday. Two of the show's stars, Leighton Meester and Ed Westwick, were spotted filming near Gramercy Park in New York City looking gorgeous as usual.

Today, the cast and crew are filming a Fourth of July scene in Old Westbury, NY. Dedicated Gossip Girl fans will recall season two also kicked off on Long Island where, like any respectable upper east siders, the kids summered in the Hamptons. So what trouble can they get into this year? Can't wait to find out! XOXO
