I think it was done purposely. With reason -- it's proved a point to those who watch the show about the characters in question. If anything, the season proved that they don't work as a couple. And may not ever. And if the repetitive storylines are what we had to endure in order to move past that from now on. In turn never having to go through that again and having new SLs and love interests for Serena in this new season (real ones). I don't mind so much.

It's time for Serena to reach her potential. That's all I'm asking for

imo, there was clearly something from her side in the first episodes, up until 1x03.
plus, we got hints from Lily, Blair and Chuck while Serena obviously just ran away from her past (with Dan), ignored it and didnt want to talk about it at all.

if we get SN in season 3 though, their history is the slightest problem to write them in a good way that makes sense. the writers just have to try, same goes for Serena/Carter.

I don't even see Serena in long-term relationship in the near future. She's too much of an emotional vagabond. With a foundation built on sand. I don't know.

And perhaps in the interim, before all of this 'relationship' ish goes down, Serena can participate in an NYU 'talent' show with the rest of her little friends. It would be a way to utilize the cast's irl musical talent.

Chuck's newfound drunken British rocker persona would harmonize well with Blair's poppy vocals. Jenny and Hilary Duff's character could provide some edgy and hardcore punkrawk backups. Also giving way for Hil Duff's character to be enveloped into the core. Dan and Rufus bonding on guitar. Lilly hiding thenotsoinvisible baby bump behind a drum set. Vanessa on cymbals. Serena rocking a triangle! And Nate could stand on stage and look pretty, scouting the crowd for groupies. It would be a magical event. And the ratings would soar. Oh yes.

Although they act like they're 30 we tend to forget that they're 18. To think that these kids are meant to be with someone they hook up now until the end of their days is weird to say the least. I agree with what you said, first of all Serena needs to grow emotionally to be able to be in a relationship with someone. There are a lot of things she has to deal with, that's what we've been asking for a long time. That's what I want to see.

I will never ship her with Dan again. Never. They bring the worst out of each other. As for Nate, I have no idea, we've never seen them in a relationship, I think that's what people (NSers) have been asking, give them a chance. And I think they deserve that chance, let us know what it was like before Serena left. As much as people want to dismiss there was nothing, it was a drunken mistake, yes it was, it's always a big, big mistake to sleep with your best friend's bf, there have been too many hints from different characters that NS had a special bond. Even Blair knows that.
