Here is a theory:

Because we pretty much every year are changing the cast, and every year the majority of fans wants Prentiss back and every year the majority of fans hate the new character, maybe they want her too look more serious than a fashion model? When JLH was hired, I wasn't too happy about it, because she was a freakin super model, but then she gave birth, didnt get in shape and cut her hair and it made her a lot more serious.

I think it is interesting that the people who have come after Elle are all dark and short haired. Then When JJ left for the State Department another blonde came in. Also think of the similarities between Gideon and Rossi.....older, has an italian look to them, etc. I think the casting is always looking for similar people to the characters they follow.

Well Rachel / Seaver is a redhead or at times Auburn hair . Not sure if they had her change her hair color for the show . Paget has dark hair , Jean is a brunette . JLH light brown hair , she has had dark blonde at times in her career .
