This was a good episode. It was nice to learn a bit more about Luke.

I had a bad feeling something would happen to Phil when the promo photos came out. That "previously on Criminal Minds" segment didn't help me feel any better. I wish they hadn't killed him We met him once last season and then they bring him back just to kill him. Harsh. But I get that they needed something to make Luke tick, and using someone we've (briefly) met would be better for the emotional impact than bringing in someone totally new. Still, it sucks that Phil had to die. Though, a quick little thing about Phil: did anyone else feel like they should have maybe had more protection for Phil? When Phil was still at the BAU, they knew Grant was the unsub and they knew Grant's family was killed by Ramos, thus Grant wanted revenge. Shouldn't Luke and the team have thought Luke and Phil could be targets since they were part of taking down Ramos and arresting him and not killing him? And then when Grant said he was getting after everyone involved, Luke said that included him (and it would have included Phil as well). I get that he was so panicked about Lisa and maybe wasn't thinking straight, but it would have been nice if he had tried to call Phil, and then when Phil didn't answer Luke asked to have police sent to Phil's place. But I guess Luke wasn't thinking straight since he thought Lisa was going to be targeted.

Poor Lou I wonder if Luke and Lisa will take him in or if Garcia will take him in.

I kind of liked that they had Garcia and Phil interested in each other But I also couldn't help but wonder if they've seen each other since last year (we met Phil in 13x07). Have they just been thinking about each other for a year and not acting on it? Were they just trying to use Luke as their middle man and he was just all "nah". If Phil hadn't been killed, he and Garcia could have started dating.

The Garvez shippers were going after Lisa for almost leaving Luke at the end. I don't blame the woman. Luke said she had to go somewhere off the grid in case the unsub was targeting her, and this was after a mutual friend of theirs was targeted by someone that Luke (and Phil) knew and used to work with. I'd be worried if my boyfriend's job meant me or possibly me loved ones being targeted. She listened to him though and decided to stay. It was nice to see Luke really open up to her.

I think Prentiss handled Luke well. I saw some calling her a hypocrite because of her situation with Doyle. I don't think that's quite fair: she wasn't the boss back then, now she is, so she has to take action and hand out consequences. Plus, she could have learned from that whole ordeal and doesn't want others to do similar to what she did. However, I do think Prentiss has slipped a bit when it comes to reprimanding the team. Simmons and JJ weren't taken off of cases when they were personally/emotionally involved, but Luke is.
Simmons went into a hostage situation without backup and didn't get desk duty (as far as we know). JJ said she'd kill the unsub in Tall Man if she wasn't restrained yet she still got to work the case, go out in the field, and interrogate the unsub. So if anything, Prentiss hasn't been consistent in punishment. I think Prentiss was in the right with handling Luke, and I wish they would show her putting her foot down more. Now, while I do think Prentiss was right to punish Luke, it was a bit harsh of her and Simmons to just leave Luke alone at the port and drive away. And someone on another forum mentioned that it might have been more appropriate to give Luke that demotion in her office and not out in the field. But overall I felt it was handled well.

The episode was Luke heavy and a lot of the others didn't get a lot to do. I liked getting to know more about Luke, so I guess it wasn't too bad that he got featured a lot, but it still makes me wish the character centric episodes were more equal.

Good episode. I still feel bad about poor Phil though.

Very powerful. Type of episode that keeps you on the edge of your seat .
This had a lot of twists and I should have figure out the unsub when I saw the flashback and the one team sniper who wanted the cartel monster dead .
Reid was popping in and out of this ep, when Luke First got back to the BAU after learning his ex partner was killed, thought Tara was going to talk to him.
I belive back in season 2 didn’t Hotch take away Elle badge ?

FYI I know the women ( Danilla Alonso ) who was the physical therapist/luxe girlfriend . I remember her from
TV series REvolution and Paul Blart Mall cop
