That's an actual barrel.

It's from a mexican show called Chaves (El Chavo del Ocho), there's an exhibit here in my city of the set from the show and I went yesterday. It's a pretty old show (I used to watch it as a kid) but it remains a classic, and one of our channels still airs the reruns. It's seriously the best kid show there is, all kids should watch it. As an adult, I still love it just the same.
