Q:The BAU is filled with talented agents. So what will Tripplehorn's Alex Blake bring to the table?

"Linguistics," says Tripplehorn. "She teaches it at Georgetown when she can. Her main [job] is the FBI, but she is a linguistics expert... She was the star of the Unabomber case. That was really where she was able to shine."

The Company Girl
Blake may be new to the show, but she's no stranger to the FBI. She's spent half her life at the agency.

"She was one of the youngest FBI members to be accepted and that's all she knows. Her professorship at Georgetown in linguistics came about as a result of her career in the FBI and her continuing education during that time."

Personal vs. Professional
The BAU can put a strain on anyone's personal life. And in Blake's case, that will be compounded with a long-distance relationship.

The actress reveals, "They'll kind of get into her family. She's married, but she's career-driven as is her husband who's with Doctors Without Borders, and they have a Skype relationship. He's always gone. [They have] no children."

Welcome to the BAU
In true Criminal Minds fashion, there's already bad blood between Blake and an established character.

"You see in the first episode that she's been moving towards this. She actually, probably by now [should] have Strauss' job," admits Tripplehorn. "They deal with that in the very first episode. You find out that Strauss (Jayne Atkinson) -- when they were both hitting the glass ceiling -- Alex became the fall guy in some things that occurred during the anthrax case. It shouldn't have been her fault and Strauss did not reach out a helping hand to her fellow woman. So Alex kind of fell down the ladd."

As I mentioned in the episode thread, I'm going to have to give her more time. Though I'm really interested in what happened at the very end of the episode. It seems whoever took those pictures were focused on her since she was in the center. Wonder what's going on with her.

Perhaps something to do with the case she mentioned to Strauss? I think she said she got the wrong unsub or something? Anyways, I'm not sure how I feel about her yet but I enjoyed watching her scenes. I like the way she speaks, it calms me

I too need at least a few more episodes to make a decision on "alex". I felt her first scenes made her kind abrupt . That is not what we are used to as far as the BAU team .

I have faith in CM writers creators to show us ,yes she is different then Elle and emily,but somebody who's skill, is important part of the BAU.

I do see a big future for her and Reid and genius team

as far as Jean goes, I m fan of her work on Big Love HBO series . She really stood out in a role of older woman in polygamist marriage. Her role got stronger each season . glad to have her on board

Thanks for the update, Matt. I cleaned up the OP for spelling and clarity, but I'm glad we have a Bio for her now!

Jeanne is awesome. I got to meet her a few years ago when she was still on Big Love and she was fantastic. I can't wait to see her character grow!

Since a lot of the fans had questions , that interview was good as a bio. Plus it didn't contain any spoilers for the season.

I think that the person who took those picture is the wrongly accused unsub. But time will tell. I'm not sure how I feel about her yet either. But it was just one episode and she seems to have a hard time trusting people. Considering her backstory with Strauss it's understandable. I think she is going to be more of a team player once she gets to know the team better.

I like that she is a bit similar to Reid, at least when it comes to the intelligence. Reid is finally going to have somebody on the team who doesn't look weird at him when he starts one of his speeches.

That's an excellent suggestion! I should have considered that as a possibility. Interesting that he/she would be all over the BAU team entirely and so quickly (especially since she just joined), but it should make for a great second storyline!

I love her character so far! Love that she stands her ground when it comes to Strauss!

I wonder if she has a similar history as Rossi when he joined the the team, in not being used to having to share with the group. I mention this because in th premiere she felt she didn't need to share certain info and Morgqn called her on it, but she explained her reason behind it easily.

I look forward to learning more about her as the season progresses.

I like how she reacted to Garcia's gift, she seemed genuinely touched. And I liked that she had a little friction with Morgan - can't think of anyone better than him for that

She doesn't seem used to being a team player but I think she might fit in soon enough.
