Maybe for the turning effect...

In reference to your discussion of Carrie's pronunciation of "around" .... it might be her southern accent....

She says..... "a-round" as in A (like the letter) then round? Is that incorrect? I thought it was right

Do you pronouce it "uh-round"?

But don't all singers just sing a uniform way? Like, she's definitely got a Southern speaking accent but you don't really hear it in her singing voice.

I definitely agree on her singing voice being different to her speaking voice... but some singers really have an 'accent' when they're singing... for example, Missy Higgins.

Ah yeah..Missy's is terrible but endearing.

Carrie usually doesn't sing "Southern" if ya know what I mean. She sounds rather southern in I Aint In Checotah Anymore, but I think that's to give it some authenticity. She's wailing about her home town for goodness sake.

I pronounce it uh-round too. I've never noticed that she says it the other way.

I only noticed her accent on parts of some songs. Most of the time it's just on a word or too. But I agree about it being noticeable on IAICA. I think it's cute.

ITA about it showing through in IACIA, though... it does give it that feeling.

I guess I don't even notice the accent in "I Ain't in Checotah Anymore" Perhaps that's because I've my own Oklahoma accent ... and I'm not even 50 miles down the road from Checotah

Carol, so it must be natural for you.

What about in The More Boys I Meet? I was listening to that this morning and I thought it sounded a little accented on some words.

I was watching an old 80s clip of Whitney Houston singing I Wanna Dance With Somebody on cable the other night, she was dancing around the stage and her singing wasn't breathy at all, so I was in awe really.

Then I realized, Carrie's voice always sounds so pitch-perfect because she barely moves around on stage. I know we've read articles in the Quotes thread about her getting healthier, but that seemed to be more for her health [obviously ] and outward appearance really. I think this newfound appreciation for fitness will help her vocals. Maybe soon we'll see *her* dancing around the stage too, without getting out of breath or anything. [Not that she does..'cos she never tries..]
