The library around here always gets the PD books right away -- so it's not for any amount of patience that I can wait until paperback to buy them.

Hm, what's The Goose Girl about? I've never heard of it.

Oh, that's good about your library having the PD books right away. There's never enough copies of the PD (any volume), so I would always have to place a hold on it and wait for weeks for it to come.

It's a retelling of the fairy tale of the same name. It was just published this fall, I think, but has gotten great reviews and is very good.

It's good to know that I'm not alone in this. Gah, I feel so stupid when everyone knows about something I don't!

Hey, I visited here a while ago...

I got volume IV at the library, but I'm waiting for the paperback to buy! It sucks because III is in hardcover I just couldn't wait to read it and there was a line of holds at the library. I usually like all softcovers.

The Goose Girl... hmmm... rings a bell...

Oh, I get it now! True. I'd probably never buy a book again, unless I lost it and it was
really good.

Instead of giving a bassic summary, I'll just post what amazon has.

Quote:
One of the best and most popular of Kerouac's autobiographical novels, The Dharma Bums is based on experiences the writer had during the mid-1950s while living in California, after he'd become interested in Buddhism's spiritual mode of understanding. One of the book's main characters, Japhy Ryder, is based on the real poet Gary Snyder, who was a close friend and whose interest in Buddhism influenced Kerouac. This book is a must-read for any serious Kerouac fan.
