Taking books away on holidays.

When I was little and our family used to go away on holidays, I would always take this huge backpack full of books. My Dad used to stand there with this shocked look on his face when I loaded it into the car and he'd say to Mum "But we're only going away for FIVE DAYS!"
Since I've gotten older, I've only ever taken 2 or 3.
We're going away again soon and I'm thinking of ways I can stuff as many books as possible into my suitcase

How many books do you take away on holidays?

When my parents and I went to Ireland over the summer for 16 days I took three paperbacks, read all of them, and then bought a new book while I was there. I always take books, and normally I'll take used paperbacks and then leave them at the hotel or B&B so that other people can enjoy them too.

Last year, I didn't take any away with me, and man did I suffer because I really struggled to find a bookstore while I was travelling. I think I found one shop and bought 3 incase I didn't have chance to find another. I did find a store on my last day though and bought another 2 to keep me occupied on the flight home.

This year I already have some picked out and recommended by a friend, so I'll be prepared!

Depends on the length of the trip, where I am going/for what reason, the books I have handy, and the amount of time I will spend in an airport/on an airplane. Usually between two and five books, almost always paperback since they take up less space.

I do the same, usually 2 or 3. If I don't get around to reading them all and decide to leave some behind, it's not so hard if it's not a new book.

It depends on the length of the trip, how I'm getting there (I get carsick reading, but I'm ok on trains and planes), and what I'm doing. For instance, when I was in Austria/Germany last May, I brought one book, read it, and then bought two more because I was only three days into the trip! Usually, though, I'll take two or three.

Usually it's one book every five days. If I'm going to spend time on the beach or travelling, then I bring more.

I always bring paperbacks so they don't get my bag too heavy.

I usually take three books no matter where I'm going or for how long i'll be gone. Because there's always the plane trip, or drive, at night before I go to bed, and on most trips have a day that's boring. So I usually finish two and have one just in case

I always get so tempted to buy a stack of books at the airport. I tend to take light reading when I'm on holiday, Dan Brown or something. I once tried reading Thucydides on holiday which was needless to say, a very bad idea

I usually bring 2 or 3 depending on how long I'll be away. Mostly fact-books about Royal families because I read them slower than regular books!

I always pack a lot of books for vacation. Part of the fun of packing is deciding on what books to take.
