Susan Elizabeth Phillips Discussion Thread #1

Any fans out there?

I'm sooooo excited about her new book. I pre-ordered it and I hope it won't take that long to get here. I NEED my Susan E. Phillips fix!

She's one of my favorites! I put this book on hold at my library as soon as they listed it in the database and I should have it by the end of this week. I can't wait to read it, I really enjoyed the first chapter SEP put on her site.

Me too.

What's your favorite SEP book? Mine is "Lady Be Good". Emma cracks me up.

That's my favorite book too. I also really enjoyed "Match Me If You Can." There are very few of her books that I haven't enjoyed and those have mostly been her very early ones like "Hot Shot" and "Honey Moon." I've only read those once so I'll have to give them another shot and add them to my reading pile.

I was looking at the booklist on her site and I'm not crazy about the new covers. I love the style of the "Match Me If You Can" cover which is similar to the "Natural Born Charmer" and "Ain't She Sweet?" covers but I don't like the reprint covers for the Stars books.

I know. Especially the one for "It had to be you". Might give people the wrong idea. And I sure as hell wouldn't read that in public with a cover like that.

I've only read "Hot Shot" and "Honey Moon" once either. They're not bad, but not my favorites.

I re-read "Match Me If You Can" a few months ago, hope that's gonna be enough preparation for the new one. Can't wait for Dean. I loved him in "Match Me If You Can".

I picked it up at the library this morning and I've already finshed it. I really enjoyed it! A few parts reminded me a bit of "This Heart of Mine" but it's definitely a new story. I really liked Blue; I thought she was fun and spunky and really different from a lot of SEP's other heroines.

I hope you get to read it soon. Normally I try to get new books back to the library as soon as possible so other people don't have to wait but I'm going to hold on to this one for a bit to read it again.

I may be thinking of another author, but I think I am a sort-of fan of her books. It bothers me that she writes in accents occasionally, so I tend to avoid several of them...

Are you talking about when things are written phonetically, like 'appy instead of happy to indicate a dropped h? If so I totally agree with you. I always find that distracting and it pulls me out of an otherwise good story.

I don't remember SEP ever using accents. Do you remember anything else about the book you're thinking of?

Yes, that is what I am talking about. I absolutely hate when authors do that; it's so distracting!

But, I did a bit of research and realized that I was actually thinking of Susan Anderson's writings. I have read several books by both authors, and constantly seem to confuse their names.

I must say, though, that in my opinion Phillips is the superior author. 'Nobody's Baby but Mine' was the first of her books that I read, and it remains my favorite. Has anyone else read it? If not, you are missing out! I am new to the thread, so I'm not sure about your spoiler policy... but perhaps those of you who have read the books will understand me when I mention Lucky Charms?

By far, my favorite part of the novel! And sadly, it seems like something I would do!

I love that part! "Nobody's Baby But Mine" was my first SEP book too and I was hooked as soon as the characters were introduced.

I've always liked how SEP's continuation stories are linked mostly through male characters rather than females. It makes a nice change from most romances where the main characters of the series are usually sisters or close female friends. I know there are some female links through the series, like Phoebe and Molly, but for the most part the Stars books are focused on members of the team.

I had no idea that Phillips had branched out from NBBM. If you could recommend one (I'm guessing that there have been a few?), I will have to get it right away!

Guess what! I got NBC yesterday! Woooohooooooooo! I was so happy I had to show everyone.

I'm already in love with Dean...and Blue. Those two are perfect for each other. Too bad this will be the last one of the Stars series.

modern_audrey, you can find a list of her books on her site here. They're listed in chronological order by publication date with all of the Stars books grouped together. They don't really need to be read in order but I always like starting from the beginning. If don't want to do that I'd suggest gettting "Dream a Little Dream" since it's the most direct follow-up to NBBM and deals with both of Cal's brothers.

tijuana_lady, I've really enjoyed the Stars books too so I'm sad this is it. But I've also enjoyed most of her non-Stars books so I'm looking forward to seeing what her next one will be.

Yeah, like "Breathing Room". That was a goooood one. Whatever she does, it'll be great, I'm sure.
