September Book of the Month: Boneshaker by Cherie Priest

Hey everyone,
With six votes, Boneshaker by Cherie Priest is the book of the month this month. This is what amazon.com says about this Hugo Award nominee:

Quote:
Maternal love faces formidable challenges in this stellar steampunk tale. In an alternate 1880s America, mad inventor Leviticus Blue is blamed for destroying Civil War–era Seattle. When Zeke Wilkes, Blue's son, goes into the walled wreck of a city to clear his father's name, Zeke's mother, Briar Wilkes, follows him in an airship, determined to rescue her son from the toxic gas that turns people into zombies (called rotters and described in gut-churning detail). When Briar learns that Seattle still has a mad inventor, Dr. Minnericht, who eerily resembles her dead husband, a simple rescue quickly turns into a thrilling race to save Zeke from the man who may be his father. Intelligent, exceptionally well written and showcasing a phenomenal strong female protagonist who embodies the complexities inherent in motherhood, this yarn is a must-read for the discerning steampunk fan.
Can't wait to read this book. I have a copy at home so I'll have to start reading it when I get off work a little later this evening. It looks pretty good and I'm a speampunk fan.

I can't wait, either

I think I'll be cutting it a bit close, though. I've had a hold for a couple months, but I probably won't get a copy until the end of the month.

Here's to hoping, though!

Well, you're more than welcome to talk about the book and use this thread after the month is up. Boneshaker is the BOTM for September, but it doesn't mean that you can't talk about the book here in October and November too

I'm about 300 pages in and so far, it's fantastic. Really, just a great story. I heard some people were turned off by it because of the "zombies" but I think it does it well. It's not a typical zombie story and they really don't play a huge role in the novel in the grand scheme of things. Priest does such an amazing job creating an awesome environment and really cool characters. I can't wait to finish it because I want to see what happens.
