Add me, please? :flowers:

I love it when the main legitimately falls for the 2nd love interest in a triangle.

Stay to the Lights 04-24-2013 09:15 PM

Of course! :D

I do too, but only if I am shipping that side.

Bree347 04-24-2013 10:33 PM

Yeah. I feel as soon as the author has started making it clear that the 1st person's the main's first love, that they just can't let go...I feel like the point they're making is that they have to, to grow. So it weakens the idea of the ship for me. But it then sets up any future relationship as the more successful one. That's what I feel like happened with The Selection.

I much prefer that set up to the one most authors go for- main falls in love, it's clear it's meant to be but something gets in the way, so some other character comes in with feelings for the main...who in turn doesn't reciprocate as strongly. And we just wait for them to go back to the first person.

Though I'd still prefer no love triangle  So tired of them.

Yeah. We can't help it if there is a love triangle, we can just control who we like.

As soon as The Selection started and that America/Aspen were already in a relationship without us knowing much about them or seeing them get together, I knew I wouldn't like them.
I fell for Maxon right away, and loved how she kept him on his toes... not going for the usual reaction he gets from girls, and he admires that.

When you think about it now, it was all set up for a reason. And I fully believe that America will grow so much with Maxon.. she has started to already. I think at some point before the end, she'll want to be princess, and his bride. She'll want to do good for the country, not to mention being by Maxon's side doing it.

What do you think of the potential TV series?

Bree347 04-24-2013 11:04 PM

 I agree, I love how she surprised him and he was intrigued by her. I read the novella from Maxon's POV and it's clear he needed to meet someone like her. They have been set up really well, and I do think America would make a good queen even though she doesn't.

I'm definitely interested in seeing it play out on screen. I know a lot's been changed though, so I'm not expecting it to be what The Selection is. I'll enjoy it for what it is on it's own most likely. I do think it's a good idea to have older characters though, it'll reach a wider audience. The only thing that bothers me is the idea of Maxon being a bad boy. I mean I'm sure it'll be appealing, but Maxon being such a sweet guy set him apart from the legions of mysterious bad boys you get for main love interests in YA books. It's not that I don't like those kinds of characters, it's just that I like seeing a break from the norm every now and then.

Yeah. I loved Maxon's novella and how we saw what he thought when he saw her. It spoke volumes that he knew from that moment she would change his life. She made such an impression on him. I think it was from that point forward where his heart was claimed, she just didn't know it yet.

yeah. Things are changed, and yes.. they had to age the characters to get in a wider range, which was perfectly fine by me, and a early 20's feels more ready in preparation to find a bride and lead a country.

And I have read the script and I am excited to see America and Maxon onscreen. I don't really have a problem with him being a bit of a bad boy, because I believe it only adds more elements to him. We're definitely going to see so much flaws to him. From the playboy, to the son to who people want him to be... and then comes America where he'll have to work for her affections just like the books.
