Scott Westerfeld's The Uglies Trilogy b/c Bubbly is the New Craze

The Uglies Trilogy consists of Uglies, Pretties and Specials by Scott Westerfeld. It is a young adult sci-fi that takes place in the future where everyone gets plastic surgery when they are teens. Has anyone else come across this series?

Since almost a year has passed since I posted this, I was wondering if it was ok to bump this in case anyone has read it in the past year and wants to comment on it.

Yeah very true. It's one of the reasons that kept me reading. I wanted to see the changes and how it would effect everything else in her life.

I never got to read the last one in the series "Extras". I know it's with new characters. Did you get a chance to read that one?

I LOVE these books! They're so good. I always confuse people when instead of saying something makes me something else I instead ending the emotion or whatever with making... apparently adopting speech from books is strange.

It's like speaking in newspeak from 1984.

Yes, yes, Extras is good, and althought it has new characters does of course bring in some of the old ones too.

I'm not sure what newspeak is but I'm sure that makes sense... And I don't seem to be able to help myself because my mind seems to think that some parts of their speach are perfect for conversation.

I made a booboo I meant 1984. The book 1984 also has it's own little language, newspeak.

Oh and I know what you mean. We csn start a trend if we started using the words in the book. Of course everyone would be looking at us funny at first, but only in the beginning. It will surely catch on quick.

Okay... that makes more sense. I was wondering what 1985 had to do with anything. Never read 1984 but now I feel better that I wasn't completely off.

I think we could make it catch on... if only we could get everyone else to read them although my sister thought I was being odd and she has read them. Although she said it was alright as long as I didn't say a certain phrase but I'm not sure what it was.

We're doing a bit better but a discussion of some sort would help the thread out. Something like talking about Tally or Shay or David or the cutters. Or um different kind of surges because some of those are really crazy like the truth-telling one that happens in Extras and I imagine that flash tattoos would be really awesome.

And I keep hoping that it really will become a movie... I mean it's in consideration at least but there hasn't been anything new on imdb in ages, not since it first showed up on there in March but then again A Great and Terrible Beauty has been going along the same lines. Meh, guess I'll just wait and see and watch.

I didn't know we had a Uglies thread

I've read all the books except Extras so far. I started on it but haven't finished since I had to return it to the library.

For some reason I liked Tally and Zane more.

I'm in the middle of Pretties. I'll probably finish it tonight since I'm on a total coffee and sugar high .
So far I'm liking David and Tally more, but Zane seems okay too... whoever she ends up with'll probably be fine by me.
Are his other series any good? I remember once starting Peeps but it was on my laptop and then it crashed and yeah.. now I can't remember if I liked the first twenty-odd pages I read.
