I'm reading Calling on Dragons by Patricia Wrede now. I loved the second book and I'm loving this one too, so I'm glad I stuck with the series after book one left me underwhelmed. I have to read book four this month too, along with the newest Pern book for a dragon challenge. I also picked up the final two Acorna books by McCaffrey from the library and after I read those, I'll start on the Acorna sequel trilogy.

I'm working on the Farseer trilogy right now actually. I think she's a great writer. I'm at school right now so I don't have a lot of time to read since I'm studying English literature and that's giving me very little time to have fun reading.

Calling on Dragons was great and since it had a cliffhanger ending, I can't wait to read the final book, Talking to Dragons, which I hope to start tomorrow.

Dragon Harper is pretty bad and I'm seriously considering giving up on the Pern series because I don't like what Anne McCaffrey's son has done to it.

I also have a bunch of Firefly/Serenity books and graphic novels in the TBR pile. I watch a Firefly marathon on SciFi, then got Serenity and finally watched that and now I'm obsessed all over again. And my cousin's best friend let me borrow some other Joss Whedon comics plus the manhwa Model.

I loved the whole Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia Wrede and I'm glad the dragon challenge I joined got me to finally finish the series.

The Serenity graphic novel I read was okay, but it was way too short and since it was a prequel, I found it unsatisfying, but that's not Joss Whedon's fault (frelling Fox!).

I finished Anne McCaffrey and Elizabeth Ann Scarborough's original Acorna series in the past week and I wasn't too enthusiastic about it, but I wanted to see how things ended... only they didn't! There's a sequel trilogy and not much really gets wrapped up in the original series. I guess I'll have to read the Acorna's Children series now too.

I'm also trying to catch up on Fruits Basket so I read Vol. 18 a few days ago and I want to read Vol. 19 this week. I can see all of the story lines coming together and wrapping up and I can't wait to finish the whole series.

I've read the entire Word and The Void Trilogy and thoroughly enjoyed it. I've read some of his others, also, including the first 3 books of the Magic Kingdom of Landover Series and some of the Shannara books.

I was reading To Trade the Stars by Julie Czerneda, but I'm taking a break from it during the Olympics. Instead, I'm reading Carmen Dog by Carol Emshwiller now. It's an interesting book that I probably never would have even heard of if I hadn't gotten it free at last year's World Fantasy Convention. It reminds me a bit of Sheri S. Tepper's books, or maybe Tepper meets Terry Pratchett because it's also satirical.

I'm not sure if this is the right thread to ask in, but I'm going to try. Does anyone know of any young adult books about mermaids?

There's the Water Trilogy by Kara Dalkey:
Ascension
Reunion
Transformation

And there's also Sirena by Donna Jo Napoli.

And one I really want to read is Midnight Pearls by Debbie Viguie, which is part of the Once Upon a Time fairy tale retelling series.

Thank you so much!

Midnight Pearls sounds especially intriguing.

I think this goes here:

Just yesterday I bought the book The Last Days of Krypton by Kevin J. Anderson. I had seen it a while back and just randomly looked for it yesterday. This should be an interesting read. Pretty much everybody knows the history of Superman- this story goes a little beyond that; rather Pre-Superman/Clark Kent. Back to his home planet before the disaster.

Despite all my school reading I look forward to finding some time to read this.

You're welcome. I know, I want to read that entire Fairy Tales series.

Carmen Dog ended up being okay, same with To Trade the Stars. I also listened to Alice's Adventures and Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll and I expected to like them a lot more than I did. I've been picking some mediocre SFF lately.

Now I'm reading Groundties by Jane S. Fancher. I loved her fantasy trilogy but somehow never got around the reading her science fiction trilogy until now. I'm enjoying this book and it has all of the angst I expect from Fancher.

Right now I'm reading World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie Wars by Max Brooks. I wasn't sure what to expect of it, because it sounds like a bit of parody, but it's actually very dark and very interesting and shows what people might do to other people in the event of such disaster. I recommend it to people that like dystopic fiction set in the near future. It certainly has sci-fi elements, but I wouldn't label it science fiction in the strictest sense.
