I like Russian writers a lot. My favorite works are by Doestoyefsky and Chekov. I haven't read all their work. But I've enjoyed what I've read so far.

I was in an accademic super bowl my senior year in high school for English literature and our period was the Russian Revolution. I had to read The Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekhov and The Death of Ivan Ilych by Leo Tolstoy as well as some poetry and a few short stories by Russian authors. I found it very interesting because I'd never really read Russian literature before than. I haven't read much since, just because it's not what I enjoy a lot, but if I was ever asked to read it again I'm sure I'd like it.

I read Doestoyefsky's The Brothers Karamosov... It was long and took me several moths to read it, but I really enjoyed it. A lot more than I thought I would.

I've read Boris Akunin! I love how he has all these subgenres and each Fandorin book is a homage to a particular writer, even if I don't know that many of the great mystery writes. I loved Leviathan though - I'm a huge fan of Agatha Christie, and he did a great job with imitating her style, even Fandorin seemed a bit like Poirot...fantastic

The only Russian author I've ever read was Vladamir Nabokov. I read Lolita this year and though it was very odd, it was also very interesting.

I read Dead Souls by Nikolai Gogol , War and Peace and Anna Karenina by Tolstoy.
Dead Souls was the wierdest book ive ever read, has anyone else read it?
I also think Anna Karenina is a bit overrated

Yeah, I read it but that was quite some time ago. If I remember correctly, the book was never actually finished by Gogol.
I also read The Death of Ivan Ilych by Leo Tolstoy and Crime and Punishment as well as The Idiot from Fyodor Dostoevsky. They were all such great books IMO.
And I'm planning to read The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Boulgakov and Devils: The Possessed by Dostoevsky soon.

Thats right, you get to the end of the book but not really the end. It just trails off into nothingness.

Also, throughout the book theres bits or whole paragraphs missing as he burt some of them (i think), it really puts you off

I haven't read a lot of Russian writers... I've read "Margarita and the Master ", which I found absolutely breathtaking (and I greatly encourage everyone to read it), and I've read Nabokov's "Invitation to a Beheading", which I found rather odd and not all that enjoyable. I want to read "Lolita", though, if only because it was such an influential book at it's time, and is still so today... Anyone have anything particularly good to recommend?
