Hi guys

Wow, so much to catch up!

I just went to a book fair and bought around 150 books, some romances and some in other genres.
Oh my! 150 books! I don't think I've bought that many books.

Doublestuf I've only discovered Gaelen Foley last month, and I've tremendously liked the books that I've read. I need to get the last books of the Knight Miscellany (Jacinda's story and Lizzie's story). I have to admit that when I was reading the first book of the series The Duke, I've been hoping that Lizzie and Alec would get together, since they kinda reminded me of Penelope and Colin from Julia Quinn's Bridgertons series. But now I can see that it's not gonna happen, and since I've been reading bits about Devil takes a Bride, I had a clue about what happened in the previous book that would have caused Lizzie to be 'broken-hearted'.

Soz Amazon here doesn't have the anthology The Socttish Brides so I have to order it abroad if I really want to get it. I've always wanted to complete my Julia Quinn collection but I guess I'll wait a little bit for this one.

Dommie well, thanks alot for the book recommendation. I think I might try that one. I'm quite tired of the same stories all over, especially the one that take place during the Regency period. I mean, I love the Regency romances but I've read alot of them in a row, and lots of them are so similar that they become boring (with the exception of few authors that managed to be original). I'll definately give it a try.

Speaking of books that are too stereotyped and boring, I'm in the middle of Stephanie Laurens' Devil's Bride, the first book of her Bar Cynsters series. I'm sure I would have loved that book, had I read it years ago, but as it is, I find it boring. LIke I said, I've read way too many Regency books in a row, and I'm fed up with the stereotyped heros : the handsome rogue that swore never to marry, and the virginal beautiful-but-witty stubborn girl who managed to change his mind. In the case of Laurens' book, there's an crime intrigue, and I think I found it way more interesting than the couple's relationship, which is quite significant.

I guess it's my turn to recommend a book. The last book I read was Eloisa James' Duchess in Love. This is the description from Publishers Weekly :

From Publishers Weekly
Fresh and witty, this high-spirited Regency-era romance gives a tried-and-true formula a merry spin. Cam Serrard, the duke of Girton, leapt out of a window and ran off to Greece immediately after being forced into wedding 11-year-old Gina. Instead of resenting him, however, Gina spends the next 12 years sending him friendly letters. When Cam finally returns to England to grant Gina an annulment so she can marry a marquess who loves her, the warm easiness between the childhood friends doesn't surprise them, but the flare of desire does. Before long, Gina starts to wonder if being the wife of a nude-sculpting, frequently absent and socially careless duke might not be such a bad future. Chatter among Gina and her friends has the modern ring of a Sex and the City episode, and James's cheeky, sometimes sly humor makes for frequent laugh-out-loud moments. Avoiding easy stereotypes, James fleshes out all of her characters and gives them depths of emotion that romances seldom allocate to supporting characters. Though each chapter is headed by a droll description of the events to come, readers may find themselves too caught up in the snowballing action to take much notice.

This book is the first of a series called The Duchess Quartet.
It's a really funny book that have lots of funny characters. But none of them are stereotyped. On the contrary, the women portrayed in those books are no longer innocent and aren't beyond reproach as many of the Rengency heroins are. What I love the most about it is the secondary characters, who are even more interesting than the main couple. And most of them have their own book in the series.

i just have to tell you there is one part in the book where Fealen takes Roddy(Roderica's pet name around her home prior to his coming onto the scene) to Ireland...and they are using themselves as part of a mascarade to smuggle some guns off of his property. HE sets it up so that they wind up at his homestead which is just the outer walls(earlier fire years ago) and specteral dancers including themselves. He names her the fairy queen and he is her king.

by then our dear Roddy is thinking perhaps her dark devilish husband is a tad madd so this caper makes her think...YES - BUT NO, she doesn't want him to be.....i the ending so much. As soon as i had a chance i finished the lovely book last night.

Take a chance its worth it. Title again is
Uncertain Magic by Laura Kinsale

This is the place for me. My second home. If I don't read atleast one romance book a week I get cranky. I'm totally addicted.

Right now I'm reading Romance/Mythical books by Sherrilyn Kenyon. Dark-Hunter Novels. Vampires and such. Very good! I've read them several times.

I've read only one book by Gaelen Foley. It was called Princess.

My favorite authors so far would have to be Linda Howard, Sherrilyn Kenyon, and Lori Foster.

I can not tell you how much Sherrilyn made me fall for Zarek and Acheron.

Acheron is, in fact, on my all-time literary boyfriends list, which is indeed a very great honor (the list is under 5).

I'm waiting for the library to send me my requested books. It's been a fair while, though. Either things got lost or something. Maybe I'm fated to buy a Quinn book or a Kenyon book since they were both on my request list. Oh well.

Hey all!

I'm ducking back in again to say hi! My surgery went well and my eyesight is now perfect, so I'm really happy with the result - no more glasses for me!

Thanks for the book recommendation, Anne. As soon as I started reading the description, I knew that it would be a book that I'd be interested in.

Now comes the daunting task of trying to find it!

I bought Scottish Brides tonight, so I have all of Julia Quinn's books and stories now. Once I finish my library books, I'll get back to reading An Offer from a Gentleman (then I'll read To Sir Phillip, With Love). When He Was Wicked comes out next month, so I want to be caught up on the Bridgerton books by then.

I just started The Duke and I by Julia Quinn. I really like it so far but it will probably take me a long time to get through the series because it is always checked out at my library.

Jennarose- Stupid question but how did you get all those books home at once and how did you keep a pile of them when you kept looking? How much did it all cost? Sorry, I'm intrigued.

I spent about $100. I added up the cover prices and they would have been over $1000 if I'd bought them new so they were a good deal and I'll never run out of anything to read. I bought most of them on a Thursday and went back on a Saturday, so it was two trips. They had boxes for you to put them in while you were looking. When a box got too heavy, I paid for them, took them to the car, and went back to the sale.

I've heard The Notebook is good M_J_23.

I'm still reading Coulter's The Sherbrooke Twins. I haven't had much reading time lately.

Hi guys

I'm so happy, I'm finally done with my finals!
I was so busy lately that I haven't read much, except my law books, which are really less interesting than my romances...

I'm starting a series of book called "The Earth's children" by Jean M. Auel (it includes the Clan of the Cave Bear, the Valley of Horses, The Mammoth Hunters, the Plains of Passage and the Shelter of Stone). It's been a series about a girl during the prehistoric period, and apparently it's really great. It's been warmly recommended to me by a friend who's fond of historical novels for its accuracy and storytelling prose. Anyone read it?

Soz are you done with all the Julia Quinn books?
I'm sorry to hear that you'll have to go back to the hospital, buddy... I hope you'll feel better soon so we can discuss about all our favourite romances and authors! The next Quinn is coming soon.

I have the Earth's Children books, but I haven't read them yet. I flipped through my stepmother's copy of one of the books several years ago and wow was it steamy!

No, I'm not done yet. I just finished my library books. I never finished the book I started before I went to the library so I'm finishing that now. I should be done with it tonight, then I think I'll finish reading An Offer from a Gentleman. For some reason, I have a lot of unfinished books lying around, so I'm going to try working on those now.

Thank you Anne. Actually, I am feeling a lot better since my last hospital visit (the one I mentioned here). I most likely just had a virus then. I'm seeing my doctor next week and we will be discussing my options. I'll probably be having surgery, but it isn't as bad as it sounds. The surgical techniques have come a long way and with all the new medications, I might have a permanent remission after surgery. I'll be sure to bring plenty of romances and light fantasy if I'm in the hospital.

Congrats on finishing your finals.

I've read the first 3 books in the series. They're good from what I can remember of them. I love the first two books.
