The Romance Novel Thread #2

Congrats on filling up your first thread! Now onto #2. Let me know if you want anything special in the title. Hmmm how to start off the new thread ... how about this from dictionary.com.

ROMANCE

A love affair.
Ardent emotional attachment or involvement between people; love: They kept the romance alive in their marriage for 35 years.
A strong, sometimes short-lived attachment, fascination, or enthusiasm for something: a childhood romance with the sea.
A mysterious or fascinating quality or appeal, as of something adventurous, heroic, or strangely beautiful: “These fine old guns often have a romance clinging to them” (Richard Jeffries).

A long medieval narrative in prose or verse that tells of the adventures and heroic exploits of chivalric heroes: an Arthurian romance.
A long fictitious tale of heroes and extraordinary or mysterious events, usually set in a distant time or place.

The class of literature constituted by such tales.

An artistic work, such as a novel, story, or film, that deals with sexual love, especially in an idealized form.
The class or style of such works.
A fictitiously embellished account or explanation: We have been given speculation and romance instead of the facts.
Music. A lyrical, tender, usually sentimental song or short instrumental piece.
Romance The Romance languages.

So that's what the dictionary says .. but everyone defines it differently. That's one of the things that makes it so special.

A just for fun book cover messup: http://www.royaljournal.com/found_ar...nce_nove.shtml http://www.likesbooks.com/

Any other sites I should add to the list?

Are you enjoying Tell Me Lies? I would like to try it out as well.
I've barely started it but so far, I am. It's a pirate book and I don't usually read pirate books. I admit, I bought it because I liked the cover. She's his prisoner, so he does rape her, although I'm not sure either of them saw it that way.

Could add http://www.likesbooks.com/ to the list jjt? Thanks for starting the new thread.

Wow, new thread!
Thanks jjt for the great starter. I love the definitions of romance.

Lauren, have a nice week!

So now I've started Linda Howard's Son of the Morning*, I'll be back when I'm done with it and with my thoughts.

Who are your top three Romance Novelists?
Nora Roberts/JD Robb
Jennifer Crusie

Do you prefer modern day or historic romance?
I think I prefer modern now. I used to say historic but I haven't read much historic romance lately. I guess I got burned out on Scotland/England.

Great idea jjt.

Who are your top three Romance Novelists?

Penelope Williamson- absolutely amazing author.
Katherine Sutcliffe- unlike some other authors, she's gotten better with every book.
Charlaine Harris- Sookie Stackhouse series, 'nuff said.

Do you prefer modern day or historic romance?

I prefer historicals, but if my favorite authors move into contemporaries, (like so many have) I will definately follow.

Well, since romantic science fiction and fantasy isn't an option, I'll say historicals. Too many of the contemporaries I've read have the same exact tropes as historicals and it's a lot more jarring in a book that's supposed to be taking place now.

Cool poll
I like seeing the others' choices.

Who are your top three romance novelists?
- Penelope Williamson : I agree with Doggie, she's amazing. She can tell stories like no one else.
- Judith McNaught : the best to describe human emotions.
Those two are by far my favourites. I can't think of a third for now, some names pop into my mind, like Jude Deveraux, or Diana Gabaldon, but I need to read more of their works to have a final opinion.

Do you prefer modern day or historical romances?
I prefer historical romances. Contemporaries are good, they make my heart bounce, but historicals also make me dream.

That's a great topic start jtt

Who are your top three Romance Novelists?
Judith McNaught - There is no doubt in my mind that she's the best out there. This is coming from a person who been reading romance novels for years now. I love her characters. They are all worth the time you send reading about them. I hope one of her books makes it to the silver screen one day, the hero played by Hugh Jackman .
Julia Quinn - who doesn't love her?
Those are my top two, but I have lots of other favorites as well: Jude Deveraux, Julie Garwood, Brenda Joyce, Samantha James, and Katherine Stone.

Do you prefer modern day or historic romance?
Historical romance.

You guys reminded me about Judith McNaught which I forgot about.

I haven't read Julia Quinn yet. My library doesn't carry her books. I haven't search the library system yet.

Has anyone read Stephanie Laurens?
