Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey/Maturin series

Okay, I KNOW there was a thread about historical novels because I started it, but I went through all 13 pages, and couldn't find it. Anyway, whis series is so long it deserves it's own thread anyway.

I'm about halfway through the first book. OH. MY. GAWD. It's so good. I just picked it up in the store to see how to spell the character's name for... well, nefarious purposes... and I got sucked in with just the author's note at the beginning, so I bought it and stayed up past midnight reading it. (Normally you could read a whole book in that time, but I have to keep stopping to look things up.)
