It was then, in the shadows at the foot of the stairs carved into limestone, that she saw the silver, wolf-like eyes glowering in the darkness. A man-shaped silhouette materialized amid the shadows and emerged slowly. It was Lucien. He had been watching her but she felt no fear at the realization. Alice held very still and stared back at him as he walked towards her with slow, prowling strides.
