| I read the book earlier this summer and it was almost perfect, I kept hoping that Sayuki would fall in love with Nobu, but it wasn't meant to be. Hatsumomo and Mother were ![]() __________________ "I can see the carrot at the end of the tunnel" | |||

| That does it!! I'm getting this book on audio next time I hit Borders!! I've had my eye on it for ages. I do alot of driving and have soooo many books to read yet, so that's why I'll get the audio version. I need some good audios to listen to while I'm driving around. ![]() | |||

| I thought it was a...pretty book. It did open the world of the geisha life to me...something I had no idea about before...Very interesting. I did read a review of it, that said something along the lines of..."it's obvious that the novel was written by a middle-aged white man..." which I did agree with to some degree. Nevertheless, I did enjoy the read, and am looking forward to the upcoming movie! ![]() | |||

| I read this last month. I should have come here right after I read it. Anyway, I thought it was a good book. It really got me interested in the life of a geisha. ![]() __________________ there is no greater sorrow than to recall happiness in times of misery.. visit: evanescence / female fronted metal | |||

However, I still got lots to read. ![]() __________________ Help Threads! Homework Love New! OT Board - Weekly Fun Questions ![]()

| Wha?! You saw the trailer?! Well, I also saw the trailer but it had all of these Chinese subtitles and was totally out of synch, but it was still pretty awesome from what I saw. Could you supply a link to a good version of the trailer? ![]() I know you guys will like this. ![]() I'm so excited about the movie! The trailer showed little cute scenes from the book that I thought they would skip, but they didn't. ![]() __________________ | |||

| I love this book. I first read it when my roommate gave it to me in university. Then, I re-read it last summer when I borrowed it from the library. I absolutely love this book... __________________ avi by Haebrethilien | |||

| Passionate Fan ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I love that promo poster. Ken is an amazing actor and so is Ziyi Zhang so I'm happy to see both of them in the new movie. I read my copy again a little while ago and loved being able to read it all the way through with no interruptions. I think in inhaled it in about three days. Anyway, I can't wait to see the movie. I haven't seen any trailers for it in theaters or on TV yet but I will keep looking. __________________ Come stop by the Books Board for a visit. 148.94 million square kilometers on the face of the Earth, and I plan on walking every single one of them! | One of my favourite books of all time. What an amazing book. It's a shame Arthur Golden hasn't written anything since. Can't wait for the film - it looks like it's going to be a first-rate production. __________________ | |||

| Moderator Support Team ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Well, it's been a long while since this thread has been dug up again. I just finished reading this book, and I gotta tell you, I loved it. Especially Sayuri, the Chairman, and the Nobu scenes. Hatsumomo was really entertaining, too. As most as said, I love how the writing came from Sayuri POV as if she was telling her story to us, as if we were sitting across from her... However, since I've seen the movie first, the book wasn't as enjoyable as I wanted it to be. Some of the scenes weren't in the movie and versa visa. However, I am still glad I got a chance to explore the japanese culture and the daily life of a geisha. The book has made me more interested in it than ever. To get this thread moving, what was everyone's favorite scene in the book? My favorite scene would have to be towards the end, this scene in particular: Spoiler:
![]() And what was everyone's favorite character? Even though it probably going to be predictable, I want to know. My favorite character is Sayuri, coming close second is the Chairman, and coming third is Nobu. Well, I hope to have many discussions on this book in this thread! ![]() __________________
