Looking for Alibrandi

Who's heard of this book? I believe it is the Australian High School curriculum. I was lucky to catch this movie on Women's Entertainment and loved it so much that I had to run out and get the book. I would describe the novel as Young Adult, but it was still very enjoyable for me (I was 21).

It's a coming-of-age story of a young Australian of Italian heritage. The movie also stars Greta Stacchi and Anthony Lapaglia (he just won a Golden Globe for Without A Trace).

Of course, as in almost all adapted screenplays, they change stuff while they re-order others, but I still enjoyed the book even after seeing the movie.

Internet Beef: What is it good for? Absolutely nothing. So two months later, just get over it! JEEZ! Going from board to board writing essays about it just makes you look like one of those "stupid people."

I have read it ever year since I was about 13 or so - whenever it first came out! And I loved it but there were some bits that just washed right over me, probably because I was too young. And it actually wasn't until I saw the film that the WHOLE thing made sense. In my school library they recommended the book for ages 11 up but really, I'd say more like 15 up.

Read the book a while ago. It's become a sort of must-read Australian books because it's so popular here now. I did'nt think it was absolutely fantastic, but it was very good. The movie is great too. I can't believe Pia Miranda was 30 when she played Josie...

I saw the movie first and didn't like it much, so I put off reading the book, but my friend got the book for her birthday and said it was really good.

I read it and loved it and I watched the movie again. I think it's easier to watch once you've read the book.

I love the book...I read it out of interest because it was a fairly huge thing here in Sydney...but I refuse to watch the movie...

I've only heard bad things about the movie and I love the book so much...

Marchetta really captured the essence of teenagers here...to extremes of course...but I think she got the jist of it fairly well...

Word to the poster above. I live in Sydney, so I read it because it was all everyone was talking about a few years back. And I fell in love with the book, I read it a billion times this year as I was preparing for the HSC. But I haven't seen the movie, and I don't want to. I'm afraid it will kill the novel, so to speak. The book is too good, and I know I'll be disappointed by the film, so I'll just skip it.
