| The Little Prince (by Antoine de Saint Exupéry) ![]() No thread for this fantastic book?? ![]() I really don't see this book as a children's one!! It has such a deep and beautiful message!! I just love this part: "In one of the stars I shall be living. In one of them I shall be laughing. And so it will be as if all the stars were laughing, when you look at the sky at night . . . You--only you--will have stars that can laugh!" And he laughed again. "And when your sorrow is comforted (time soothes all sorrows) you will be content that you have known me. You will always be my friend. You will want to laugh with me. And you will sometimes open your window, so, for that pleasure . . . And your friends will be properly astonished to see you laughing as you look up at the sky! Then you will say to them, 'Yes, the stars always make me laugh!' And they will think you are crazy. It will be a very shabby trick that I shall have played on you . . ." This really means something to me... bb, Samwise __________________ Lord Of The Rings || X-Men Comics || Xena: The Warrior Princess || Slash Addicted || Anne Rice || Emma Frost || Samwise Gamgee || Tarkan || Dominic Monaghan & Elijah Wood || Xena & Gabrielle || Willow & Tara || Jack McPhee & Doug Witter || Rogue & Gambit || Iceman & Northstar || Frodo & Sam | |||

| Le Petit Prince! lol I read this in my AP French class, awesome that there's a thread for it. It was much harder in French to understand and the book was kind of odd but it was still great! __________________ It was a real relationship, it was just real dysfunctional. That's for sure. | |||

| I loved this book as a kid because I took it at face value. I guess I should go back and read it again for the deeper meaning ![]() __________________ ♥ icon says it all ♥ | |||

I love these parts, It's from Chapter 21... where the Little Prince finds the fox! And she teaches him about friendship and taming! ![]() "Just that," said the fox. "To me, you are still nothing more than a little boy who is just like a hundred thousand other little boys. And I have no need of you. And you, on your part, have no need of me. To you, I am nothing more than a fox like a hundred thousand other foxes. But if you tame me, then we shall need each other. To me, you will be unique in all the world. To you, I shall be unique in all the world . . ." (...) "My life is very monotonous," the fox said. "I hunt chickens; men hunt me. All the chickens are just alike, and all the men are just alike. And, in consequence, I am a little bored. But if you tame me, it will be as if the sun came to shine on my life. I shall know the sound of a step that will be different from all the others. Other steps send me hurrying back underneath the ground. Yours will call me, like music, out of my burrow. And then look: you see the grain-fields down yonder? I do not eat bread. Wheat is of no use to me. The wheat fields have nothing to say to me. And that is sad. But you have hair that is the color of gold. Think how wonderful that will be when you have tamed me! The grain, which is also golden, will bring me back the thought of you. And I shall love to listen to the wind in the wheat . . ." (...) "One only understands the things that one tames," said the fox. "Men have no more time to understand anything. They buy things all ready made at the shops. But there is no shop anywhere where one can buy friendship, and so men have no friends any more. If you want a friend, tame me . . ." (...) "Goodbye," said the fox. "And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye." (...) "Men have forgotten this truth," said the fox. "But you must not forget it. You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed. You are responsible for your rose . . ." It's from Chapter 21... where the Little Prince finds the fox! And she teaches him about friendship and taming! ![]() bb, Samwise __________________ Lord Of The Rings || X-Men Comics || Xena: The Warrior Princess || Slash Addicted || Anne Rice || Emma Frost || Samwise Gamgee || Tarkan || Dominic Monaghan & Elijah Wood || Xena & Gabrielle || Willow & Tara || Jack McPhee & Doug Witter || Rogue & Gambit || Iceman & Northstar || Frodo & Sam | |||

| I've read somewhere that Le Petit Prince was the second most-read book ever after the Bible. I love this book, but I never thought it was this popular. I really like it, because underneath the innocent questions of the little prince, there's such reflection about life in general. And in a poetic way. Now you made me want to reread again! ![]() __________________ The difference between 'involvement' and 'commitment' is like an eggs-and-ham breakfast : the chicken was 'involved' - the pig was 'committed' | |||

| I never read the story as a child, but my friend recommended it to me, so I took a look at it, and wow it's such a wonderful story. Kinda sad too. Mind you I was 14 when I read it. ![]() It seems exceedingly intellectual for a children's book, it can be read on many different levels by older people as well. There was one part that was very sad, and I think it was when the fox left. For a creature that is supposed to be so "cunning, devious, and evil" she/he sure was awfully sweet and smart. __________________ { Harry/Draco } { Spike/Dru } { Spike/Willow } { Willow/Xander } { Ron/Hermione } Well, I know I don't know you and you're probably not what you seem Aw, but I'd sure like to find out So why don't you climb down off that movie screen? | This is such a beautiful book. I didn't know it was that popular, but I can understand why it is. Nobody mentioned the pictures yet. I love those drawings they are a big part of the story. In the beggining, when the adults didn't understand his drawings and when the little prince wants the aviator to draw a sheep, the drawings were very significant to the story. __________________ I wish I had a river. | |||

| I didn't really like this book when I was younger (I have a fear of snakes and the pictures freaked me out), but lately I've been wanting to reread it because I think I would appreciate it a lot more now. I want to read the French version too, now that I know more French. Yeah, the book is really popular, esp. in France; there's a picture of the little prince on their money--that's pretty big. __________________ + Susan "Everything I've touched has been diminished." | |||
