Since this has gone way, way, to the far back of FF, I thought I'd revive it with a new opening quote....

Let's try:

"Four years ago -- in 1874 -- two young Englishmen had occasion to go to the United States. They crossed the ocean at midsummer, and, arriving in New York on the first day of August, were much struck with the fervid temperature of the city."

Dracula by Bram Stoker

"The studio was filled with the rich odour of roses, and when the light summer wind stirred amidst the trees of the garden there came through the open door the heavy scent of the lilac, or the more delicate perfume of the pink-flowering thorn."

“Late in the winter of my seventeenth year, my mother decided I was depressed, presumably because I rarely left the house, spent quite a lot of time in bed, read the same book over and over, ate infrequently, and devoted quite a bit of my abundant free time to thinking about death.”

Reviving this because I've read the below quote, but can't recall which novel. It's driving me nuts.

Please someone...
