George Orwell - A Misanthrope?

i'm reading 1984 in class and i'm supposed to write an arguement that George Orwell is misanthrophic (hates and/or distrusts mankind). i've no idea why though - does anyone have any ideas? or do you disagree with the statement?

Goerge Orwell is definately distrustful of society as a whole; so the answer is most likely affirmative. Think of the entire conspiracy within the book, in which most individuals are not as they seem. Even Julia and Winston betray one another in the end.

Still, Winston had hope for the masses through the Proles.

I doubt that helped you answer your question at all. Good luck.
