February Book of the Month: Dear John

Quote:
An angry rebel, John dropped out of school and enlisted in the Army, not knowing what else to do with his life—until he meets the girl of his dreams, Savannah. Their mutual attraction quickly grows into the kind of love that leaves Savannah waiting for John to finish his tour of duty, and John wanting to settle down with the woman who has captured his heart. But 9/11 changes everything. John feels it is his duty to re-enlist. And sadly, the long separation finds Savannah falling in love with someone else. “Dear John,” the letter read…and with those two words, a heart was broken and two lives were changed forever. Returning home, John must come to grips with the fact that Savannah, now married, is still his true love—and face the hardest decision of his life.

I loved this book. I'm no stranger to Nicholas Sparks work and he's only made me cry twice reading his books and this was one of them. I should state that books or movies don't usually make me cry, they move me, but tears rarely come to my eyes like they did with this one.

I was so dissapointed with the movie version of this because they changed the ending which was what made the story so beautiful and tragic and proved that if you truely love someone, you'll do what is best for them. Ah, I could tear up just thinking about it.

So glad this was picked because it really is a beautiful love story.

I loved that book.. I'm a Sparks fan.. and I love their chemistry and tragedy and everything..

I didn't like the change in the movie either.. I mean yes then there was a happy ending, but still the tragic one was kind of more beautiful

I thought the ending really ruined the film for me. Sparks films do not have happy endings for the most part, we were prepared for that, lol. I was really surprised how they changed it.

I rewatched the movie last night and yes I agree that Channing and Amanda really did own the movie with their chemistry. I had only seen the movie once before and didn't dislike it as much this time, knowing how it would end and such.

I didn't like that they changed the ending either. It also bugged me that they changed little things like Alan being his son instead of his brother.

I really enjoyed this book though. I'll probably end up reading it again sometime soon.

I should see if my library has it.

I hated how the movie ended. Even though I did vote for it, I'm not sure if I do want to read it.

I love this book John is my favorite male character in modern fiction. Not every guy sacrifices something of themselves so the love of thier lives can find happiness without them. I didn't like the changes in the movie, but I did love Tatum and Amanda.
