About the A U T H O R

Christopher John Sansom is a British writer of historical crime novels.
He was born in 1952 in Edinburgh and was educated at the University
of Birmingham, where he took a BA and then a PhD in history.
After working in a variety of jobs, he decided to retrain as a solicitor.
He practised in Sussex as a lawyer for the disadvantaged, before l
eaving the legal profession to become a full-time writer.
He lives in Sussex.

W O R K S

Matthew Shardlake Series

Book 1 (2003). Dissolution



Plot Synopsis
"Set in the 16th century during the dissolution of the monasteries,
the book follows the lawyer Shardlake in his attempts to solve the
murder of one of Thomas Cromwell's commissioners in the monastery
at the fictional town of Scarnsea on the south coast of England."

Book 2 (2004). Dark Fire



Plot Synopsis
"It is 1540 and the hottest summer of the sixteenth century.
Matthew Shardlake, believing himself out of favour with Thomas Cromwell,
is busy trying to maintain his legal practice and keep a discreet profile.
But his involvement with a murder case, defending a girl accused of brutally
murdering her young cousin, brings him once again into contact
with the king's chief minister – and a new assignment ..."

Book 3 (2006). Sovereign



Plot Synopsis
Matthew Shardlake and his assistant Jack Barak arrive in York
ahead of the Progress to fulfill an official role but also with a secret
mission from Thomas Cranmer, Archbishop of Canterbury. The official
role is to deal with petitions to the king from the citizens of York; the
secret mission is to ensure the welfare of an important political prisoner,
Sir Edward Broderick, so that he can be brought to London for questioning
in the Tower of London.

Book 4 (2008). Revelation



Plot Synopsis
"Spring, 1543. King Henry VIII is wooing Lady Catherine Parr,
whom he wants for his sixth wife. But this time the object of his
affections is resisting. Archbishop Cranmer and the embattled
Protestant faction at court are watching keenly, for
Lady Catherine is known to have reformist sympathies."

Plot Synopsis

Plot Synopsis
"Summer, 1546. King Henry VIII is slowly, painfully dying. His Protestant
and Catholic councilors are engaged in a final and decisive power struggle;

Plot Synopsis

I've only been able to read the first two books of the Shardlake series, finding his books seem impossible unless you order them.

I received the first 5 books from "Matthew Shardlake Series" for Christmas so I've got a nice TBR pile!

These do sound awesome! I just checked my library's online site and they have a few of the books, including the first one. I checked it out. I'll give it a read.

I loved the first and second, but I read them years ago and have not been able to find the others anywhere. So I put them on my Christmas Wishlist this year and got them!
