October Book Club Nominations

Ah, so September ended really quickly, so sorry this is a bit late! It's time for nominations for our October book of the month! We'll take the first four nominations!

As a reminder: We will only read one book in any given series (can you imagine 7 months of the year taken up with Harry Potter alone?) and the list of books we've already read for the book club can be found in the master thread list

Quote:
Laura comes from a world similar to our own except for one
difference: it is next to the Place, an unfathomable land that
fosters dreams of every kind and is inaccessible to all but a
select few, the Dreamhunters. These are individuals with special
gifts: the ability to catch larger-than-life dreams and relay them
to audiences in the magnificent dream palace, the Rainbow
Opera. People travel from all around to experience the benefits
of the hunters' unique visions. Now fifteen-year-old Laura and
her cousin Rose, daughters of Dreamhunters, are eligible to test
themselves at the Place and find out whether they qualify for
the passage. But nothing can prepare them for what they are
about to discover. For within the Place lies a horrific secret kept
hidden by corrupt members of the government. And when
Laura's father, the man who discovered the Place, disappears,
she realizes that this secret has the power to destroy everyone
she loves . . .
In the midst of a fascinating landscape, Laura's dreamy
childhood is ending and a nightmare beginning. This rich
novel, filled with beauty, danger, politics, and intrigue, comes to
a powerful crescendo, leaving readers clamoring for Book Two.

I would like to nominate The Sky is Everywhere

Seventeen-year-old Lennie Walker, bookworm and band geek, plays second clarinet and spends her time tucked safely and happily in the shadow of her fiery older sister, Bailey. But when Bailey dies abruptly, Lennie is catapulted to center stage of her own life—and, despite her nonexistent history with boys, suddenly finds herself struggling to balance two. Toby was Bailey's boyfriend; his grief mirrors Lennie's own. Joe is the new boy in town, a transplant from Paris whose nearly magical grin is matched only by his musical talent. For Lennie, they're the sun and the moon; one boy takes her out of her sorrow, the other comforts her in it. But just like their celestial counterparts, they can't collide without the whole wide world exploding.

Feeling left out from her stepfamily at home and from her classmates at her new school, Elizabeth is delighted when she gets a job at the New York Circulating Material Repository, a library that loans objects of historical value. She's particularly intrigued when she's given access to the Grimm Collection, a secret room that holds magical objects from the Brothers' tales, e.g., seven-league boots, a mermaid's comb, and the sinister mirror from "Snow White." However, when the items start to disappear, she and her fellow pages embark on a dangerous quest to catch the thief, only to find themselves among the suspects. This modern fantasy has intrigue, adventure, and romance, and the magical aspects of the tale are both clever and intricately woven, from rhyming charms to flying-carpet rides.

Here are the three nominations we have so far:
Dreamhunter - Elizabeth Knox
The Sky is Everywhere - Jandy Nelson
The Grimm Legacy - Polly Shulman

We just need one more nomination to start voting!
If we don't have another one by tomorrow, then we will just go with the three we have.

Some very cool looking nominations this month. I'm in the middle of reading a couple other books, and some books I've borrowed from my boss, so I probably won't get involved this month, but I might see if I can squeeze it in at the end of the month I'm excited to see who wins.

Halo by Alexandra Adornetto

Nothing much happens in the sleepy town of Venus Cove. But everything changes when three angels are sent from heaven to protect the town against the gathering forces of darkness: Gabriel, the warrior; Ivy, the healer; and Bethany, a teenage girl who is the least experienced of the trio. They work hard to conceal their true identity and, most of all, their wings. But the mission is threatened when the youngest angel, Bethany, is sent to high school and falls in love with the handsome school captain, Xavier Woods. Will she defy the laws of Heaven by loving him? Things come to a head when the angels realize they are not the only supernatural power in Venus Cove. There′s a new kid in town and he′s charming, seductive and deadly. Worst of all, he′s after Beth
