October Book Club Nominations
Ah, so September ended really quickly, so sorry this is a bit late! It's time for nominations for our October book of the month! We'll take the first four nominations!
As a reminder: We will only read one book in any given series (can you imagine 7 months of the year taken up with Harry Potter alone?) and the list of books we've already read for the book club can be found in the master thread list __________________

I would like to nominate The Sky is Everywhere
Seventeen-year-old Lennie Walker, bookworm and band geek, plays second clarinet and spends her time tucked safely and happily in the shadow of her fiery older sister, Bailey. But when Bailey dies abruptly, Lennie is catapulted to center stage of her own life—and, despite her nonexistent history with boys, suddenly finds herself struggling to balance two. Toby was Bailey's boyfriend; his grief mirrors Lennie's own. Joe is the new boy in town, a transplant from Paris whose nearly magical grin is matched only by his musical talent. For Lennie, they're the sun and the moon; one boy takes her out of her sorrow, the other comforts her in it. But just like their celestial counterparts, they can't collide without the whole wide world exploding. __________________
But I don't want to be fine, not if it means she's going to let go of my hand; not if it means we're going to go back to being polite strangers. Time has stopped; time is racing. Lochie's lips are rough yet smooth, hard yet gentle. His fingers are strong: I feel them in my hair and on my neck and down my arms and against my back. And I never want him to let me go. |

Feeling left out from her stepfamily at home and from her classmates at her new school, Elizabeth is delighted when she gets a job at the New York Circulating Material Repository, a library that loans objects of historical value. She's particularly intrigued when she's given access to the Grimm Collection, a secret room that holds magical objects from the Brothers' tales, e.g., seven-league boots, a mermaid's comb, and the sinister mirror from "Snow White." However, when the items start to disappear, she and her fellow pages embark on a dangerous quest to catch the thief, only to find themselves among the suspects. This modern fantasy has intrigue, adventure, and romance, and the magical aspects of the tale are both clever and intricately woven, from rhyming charms to flying-carpet rides. __________________

Here are the three nominations we have so far:
Dreamhunter - Elizabeth Knox The Sky is Everywhere - Jandy Nelson The Grimm Legacy - Polly Shulman We just need one more nomination to start voting! If we don't have another one by tomorrow, then we will just go with the three we have. __________________

Some very cool looking nominations this month. I'm in the middle of reading a couple other books, and some books I've borrowed from my boss, so I probably won't get involved this month, but I might see if I can squeeze it in at the end of the month I'm excited to see who wins.

Halo by Alexandra Adornetto Nothing much happens in the sleepy town of Venus Cove. But everything changes when three angels are sent from heaven to protect the town against the gathering forces of darkness: Gabriel, the warrior; Ivy, the healer; and Bethany, a teenage girl who is the least experienced of the trio. They work hard to conceal their true identity and, most of all, their wings. But the mission is threatened when the youngest angel, Bethany, is sent to high school and falls in love with the handsome school captain, Xavier Woods. Will she defy the laws of Heaven by loving him? Things come to a head when the angels realize they are not the only supernatural power in Venus Cove. There′s a new kid in town and he′s charming, seductive and deadly. Worst of all, he′s after Beth |
