Books to read aloud
I'm going on a road trip with two friends, and none of our cars has a stereo. I suggested reading aloud to each other, which is something that two of our families used to do. Harry Potter is already on the table. You guys have any other suggestions? I think we need about 12 hours worth of reading.

OK cos I'm a dork, I like doing this kind of stuff and I really recommend plays rather than books because of the abundance of dialogue.
If you're reading alone, different accents/voices for each character. If there's two reading, just alternate at each character. I remember reading Under Milkwood aloud on a looooong bus trip and it was terrific fun Another thing is short stories, that way they're over fast so no one can get bored if the tale isn't to their liking |

When my mother had cancer I read The Stranger by Albert Camus to her bc I had to read it for school. That may be a little heavy for a trip though.

How about On The Road by Jack Kerouac - a road trip book.
Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and its sequel by Anne Brashares. Any J.D. Salinger book (Catcher in Rye, Nine Stories, Franny & Zooey, Raise High the Roof Beam.... if you read one of the latter 3 you must read the other 2 b/c they are connected in a way.) The Little Prince by Antoine Saint-Exupery is a great read, it's a children's book for adults. A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks is also a good book. __________________

Anything Dr. Seuss is great! Personally, I prefer Green Eggs and Ham and Oh the Places You'll Go. I read this book once, though. It's called "Meditations in Green." It's not actually good to read aloud in front of the rest of the fam since it's a war book, but the language was so beautiful I poked my roommate and read a passage to her every ten minutes.

A Calvin and Hobbes book, or this book called Pearls Before Swine by Stephan Pastis. My best friend gave me that last book for my birthday, and its hilarious.

What about audio books? I know you said you don't have a stereo in the car, if there's not a tape deck either you could bring a small tape recorder that runs off batteries and put audio tapes in there. Most bookstores and maybe some libraries have a section with audio books. They're the same as regular books. The only difference is that someone has read the book onto tape.
