Book cover Thread 1: Tell us what you see

I wanted to try something new. Post a book cover you really liked, and tell why and other posters can post about what they think as well.

Also post a short description of the book, and what it means to you.

Tarnished Gold by VC Andrews

Gabriel Landry is as beautiful as her beloved bayou.

Her high school graduation just days away, Gabriel is blissfully happy, despite the ever-widening rift between her Mama and her conniving, whiskey-drinking Daddy. Then rich cannery owner Octavious Tate surprises her near a secluded pond and shatters her sweet innocence, forever....

Pregnant and desolate, Gabriel agrees to let Octavious's frigid wife Gladys pretend she's the one who's expecting, and claim the baby as her own. Hiding in a tiny room in the Tate mansion, Gabriel is miserable, awaiting visits from her Mama, whose reputation as a Cajun healer gives her an excuse to treat Gladys Tate's "pregnancy." But nothing is more wrenching than the moment when Gladys takes baby Paul away forever.

A twilight gloom settles in Gabriel's soul, until a hunting party brings handsome, gentle Creole millionaire Pierre Dumas to the bayou. Falling desperately in love, she does not heed the warning voice: he may bring more grief than she can bear....

This was one of the first books to make me cry, and I could never read more than a few pages before I would turn back to look at the cover, seeing Gabriel's face.

She's Come Undone by Wally Lamb
Quote:
"Mine is a story of craving; an unreliable account of lusts and troubles that began, somehow, in 1956 on the day our free television was delivered." So begins the story of Dolores Price, the unconventional heroine of Wally Lamb's She's Come Undone. Dolores is a class-A emotional basket case, and why shouldn't she be? She's suffered almost every abuse and familial travesty that exists: Her father is a violent, philandering liar; her mother has the mental and emotional consistency of Jell-O; and the men in her life are probably the gender's most loathsome creatures. But Dolores is no quitter; she battles her woes with a sense of self-indulgence and gluttony rivaled only by Henry VIII. Hers is a dysfunctional Wonder Years, where growing up in the golden era was anything but ideal. While most kids her age were dealing with the monumental importance of the latest Beatles single and how college turned an older sibling into a long-haired hippie, Dolores was grappling with such issues as divorce, rape, and mental illness. Whether you're disgusted by her antics or moved by her pathetic ploys, you'll be drawn into Dolores's warped, hilarious, Mallomar-munching world. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.
I love the cover. It's similar to a discription in the book of a painting her mother made and I think is metaphorical of Dolores trying to stay a float in her life but also her head is iin the clouds.

Ooooo ... This is a great idea for a thread I love seeing the covers of the books and the discussion of what we like about them.

Blood and Chocolate by Annette Curtis Klause

This is what amazon.com has to say about the book:
Quote:
Characterizing the adolescent experience as monstrous is not exactly a new idea. M.T. Anderson's woefully confused teen vampire in Thirsty and Jean Thesman's reluctant young witch in The Other Ones serve as excellent examples of this metaphor set to fiction. But no one really captures how our hormones make us howl as well as Annette Curtis Klause. Blood and Chocolate chronicles the longings and passions of one Vivian Gandillon, teenage werewolf. Her pack family, recently burned out of their West Virginia home by suspicious neighbors, has resettled in a sleepy Maryland suburb. At her new school, Viv quickly falls for sensitive heartthrob Aiden, a human--or "meat-boy," as her pack calls him. Soon she is trying to tame her undomesticated desires to match his more civilized sensibilities. "He was gentle. She hadn't expected that. Kisses to her were a tight clutch, teeth, and tongue... His eyes were shy beneath his dark lashes, and his lips curved with delight and desire--desire he wouldn't force on her... he was different." But Vivian's animal ardor cannot be stilled, and she must decide if she should keep Aiden in the dark about her true nature or invite him to take a walk on her wild side.
Klause poetically describes the violence and sensuality of the pack lifestyle, creating a hot-blooded heroine who puts the most outrageous riot grrrls to shame. Blood and Chocolate is a masterpiece of adolescent angst wrapped in wolf's clothing, and its lovely, sensuous taste is sure to be sweet on the teenage tongue. (Ages 13 and older) --Jennifer Hubert

This book was awesome for me because it really shows what it feels like to be in the wrong skin and to feel like you don't belong even though you might want that feeling of belonging.

There is not a single book (or cover) in the world that I love more than this one:

It's about a girl who falls in love with a vampire

"Softly he brushed my cheek, then held my face between his marble hands. 'Be very still,' he whispered, as if I wasn't already frozen. Slowly, never moving his eyes from mine, he leaned toward me. Then abruptly, but very gently, he rested his cold cheek against the hollow at the base of my throat."

I'd have to say, I fall victim to a bad habit : I tend to judge books by their covers.

I loooooooooved this book

The sequel to Eragon, it continues from Eragon perfectly, with just the right amount of action and drama.

OH, I wouldn't be able to decide between the covers of Pretties, Specials, and Extras as my favorite covers. Hmmm...
I think I'll use the Specials cover.
Here it is:

Summary:

Quote:
"Special Circumstances":

The words have sent chills down Tally's spine since her days as a repellent, rebellious ugly. Back then Specials were a sinister rumor -- frighteningly beautiful, dangerously strong, breathtakingly fast. Ordinary pretties might live their whole lives without meeting a Special. But Tally's never been ordinary.

And now she's been turned into one of them: a superamped fighting machine, engineered to keep the uglies down and the pretties stupid.

The strength, the speed, and the clarity and focus of her thinking feel better than anything Tally can remember. Most of the time. One tiny corner of her heart still remembers something more.

Still, it's easy to tune that out -- until Tally's offered a chance to stamp out the rebels of the New Smoke permanently. It all comes down to one last choice: listen to that tiny, faint heartbeat, or carry out the mission she's programmed to complete. Either way, Tally's world will never be the same.
It's the third book in the Uglies series.

Anyway, to me this book means that if you keep working hard at something,
Spoiler:
like spreading around the shocking truth of the Pretty operation
you can succeed.
The cover is like what I imagined Tally's face to look like throughout the book.

Just wondering, can we post more than one cover in this thread?

NITL- Because Jess tried to have IT with her when she didn't want to. Narcoleptic- Because Dean cared about her even when he got married.
