Looks like my method hasn't really changed from my post two years ago, aside from the posting on LJ part.

But start off with the basics. Genre, plot, characters, story, title can come in later if you have to.

I have my main character and most of her details worked out and her best friend is sketched out, so I guess I should work on some B-characters.

I guess it also depends on the direction you plan to take your story too. Like what is the significance of the B or supporting characters?

well most of the supporting characters are supernatural creatures, as my story is a urban fantasy with a warrior/police style heroine that partols the lines of supernatural society. I really am having a hard time with the love interest too.

Does your story require/call for a love interest?

I always make notes and lists about characters then start to fill the other blanks as I go along I really need to develop an actual system for this

That's a good starting point I find. Mine are usually in a questionnaire-like format

Not so much questions, as: name, sex, age, DOB, appearance, likes/dislikes, family, relationships

That seems like a good start.

I never really have a system, but I almost always have to go in about half way through and write an encyclopedia-type guide for myself because I start getting confused. I have a fantasy manuscript that, so far, is about 90,000 words unfinished and has a ton of characters and information and background. I just need to go through and write out information about all the characters and their backgrounds and about the story. I'm a "dive in head first and hope I don't hit the bottom too hard" kind of writer.

Ohh an encyclopedia sounds good haha I have some world-building notes in my other binders

My longest story reached 100 pages or so. I fail

It's my dream to be an author. I have a problem though. I freeze up whenever I try to write something. I can't even write a book review. I have a hard time expressing myself. I'm not sure if this is writer's block, or if I am just way too reserved and I need to get out of my shell.

Thanks
